The Laurelin Archives - RP Webportal

    Greetings fellow roleplayers of Laurelin!

The Laurelin Archives provides you, the players of Laurelin, with a unique portal where you can share your creative work, plan events and present your characters and kinships to the community with ease!

This is done on the site with minimal to no OOC options. No forums, comments or ratings are available, there are more than enough forums out there, including this official one, that works perfectly already.

This is not a community in itself, there are no members, leaders or entry requirements. Just a web team maintaining and moderating the site. We won't judge good RP from bad RP, as long as it's RP and it abides by the Roleplaying policy, it stays on the site.

We feel The Laurelin Archives speak for themselves and one visit should be enough for you to understand the workings of it all.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The website is in some ways represented in-game by old census books of the Kingdom of Arnor, recovered and protected by the Elves of Rivendell. The in-game kinship The Grey Repository ICly maintains the archives and is made up of the website team. More about this explanation can be read on the site!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

To join the Archives, all you need is a valid email address. Once it has been verified by our team - Away you go! You can create your character profile, post stories, events, kinships and link them together with others using our simple [[double brackets]] freelinking system!

Last of all, the portals most important contributor is YOU! So follow the link and check it out for yourself!

    http://laurelinarchives.org/

We hope you enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Note: The site is based on The Argent Archives, an RP portal for a World of Warcraft EU Roleplay Server (Argent Dawn), which was extremely successful in boosting the amount of RP on the realm and bringing everyone closer together! This was done with permission from the webmaster of that site.

I cannot agree, or thank the LA site, enough - for the Archives have been a repository for the majority of Laurelin's thoughts, feelings and actions for coming two years!

Only last night, did I complete Andarne's 100th Entry in his journal. I can safely say that thanks to the Archives, so much of my own RP has been appreciated and expanded.

Calenon, you and yours get a 20 out of ten.

I can only agree with the comments above.
Laurelin Archives is a wonderful place to view and express the creative spirit of the server's roleplayers; a visit to the site never fails to inform, amuse and inspire.

High praise to Calenon and the LA webteam for maintaining the Archives - and equally to the many players who contribute their writing and art to make the site the RP focus it is!

I see loads and loads of artwork pulled from the internet (and they can be traced to the source easily) tossed on profiles without any credit for the original creator, or even a mention of 'I did not make this'. People, please have the courtesy and respect for the original artists, name your sources. I've also run into a lot of traced drawings recently which I consider very bad taste both intellectually and artistically. Because if you do it and think nobody will notice, THEY WILL and getting caught tracing can make you look terrible.
Editing someone else's work doesn't count as creating something original either. It's not reprehensible in itself but claiming it your own is lying.

Just my two cents, thank you!
    Agree'd!

In some cases, blatantly editing any work of an artist, and not naming him/her; is against the UK Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Sadly, Calenon and his team cannot moderate all the profiles. Like LotRO, it's up to the users' to report anything that needs to be.

However, to those that do source the original - and give proper credit where it's due, it helps make a profile so immersive and pleasant to read.

Indeed, it's against copyright laws and the rules of the site. Please credit your sources! A copyright message mentioning the original artist in the corner of the picture is the least that can be asked for. Like Andy said though, we've got limited ability to check all the pictures on the site, so we rely on users with better knowledge of these works of art to contact us with the information we'll need to take action.

I see we now have a Copyright Report Function.

Please remember to source artworks, and always ask permission if you wish to Edit them!

Re: The Laurelin Archives - RP Webportal

    Greetings!

In a joint venture between the Laurelin Archives and Alabast, the webmaster of the Argent Archives, we're happy to present an exclusive test of a new feature! The Chronicle! It is best explained by Alabast himself:

"The Archives was made to tie roleplayers together more. Reading each others profiles, sharing events and news; it’s all been made with the intention to make your adventures more real. Some players use it to give themselves a feeling of it all happening in a larger context whereas others might use it to help themselves organize their own, more personal, but highly intricate plots.

So far we’ve given you the ability to record your character profiles, written adventures, screenshots and artwork, events and kinships, even news and public notes. But to us, there’s always been one node that was missing. A node that allows you to describe alliances that are independent of kinships or record the exploits of that ‘neutral faction’ you wanted to try out. A node that lets you record a timeline of your heroic events or tie together plots that before were unrelated. Today we hope you’ll help us test this missing node. We call it ‘The Chronicle’.

The goal of the Chronicles is to help you organize what you upload to the Archives. Even better; it’s a great way for other players to quickly understand and research a concept you’ve been working on. We say ‘concept’, because a Chronicle could be about anything. Currently we don’t have any restrictions on it. Just remember the regular rules of the Archives. A few examples of what you could organize would be:

A large military campaign that spans several battles

The complete storyline of your internal kinship affairs

Document the incidents between two opposing groups

A gathering point for a kinship alliance between different orders/kinships

A larger community project in an otherwise quiet part of the world

A list of proclamations and important statements from your kinship

Whatever project you have in mind; the Chronicles is probably where you should put it.

What sets a Chronicle apart from a Kinship node is that it can be about anything. But as opposed to a regular Adventure node it has a field for both related stories, related images and related events. Even kinships can relate themselves to a node if they want to. This means that people can work together like never before.

We will also open for up being very ambigious with the authorship of the Chronicle. So as opposed to news articles that always needs an IC character responsible for it, you can simply write that ‘This Chronicle is maintained and written by Scribes of the Archives.’ That way you can post Chronicles about the most illiterate, savage or barbarian character.

    FAQ

This idea would put a lot of focus on really popular storylines that don't need any more attention!

    - Actually; this node would allow people to create and bring attention to even minor communities and storylines.

How do one know what Chronicle to submit to? What if there's two Chronicles named that both claim to document/do the same thing

    - 1. People must make a choice regarding what Chronicle they support and feel is the best one to submit their links to unless one can submit to several Chronicles at the same time.

    - 2. This is where titling your Chronicle is important. Put your name in the title for example to make yours as unique as possible. This will allow people to choose the author they approve the most of.

What if someone links to the Chronicle and you don't want them to?

    - Regard it as a compliment. People think you're doing a good job and want to be a part of what you do. However; you CAN also make a list in the Chronicle info field where you list up the "APPROVED" documents linked to your site.

This is not a compliment. There’s an IC document linked to my Chronicle about my character’s exploits with five half-deer/half-undead girls of dubious age.

    - That's OOC harrassment and a different ballgame. This is a problem independent of Chronicles and will be dealt with in the harshest way possible. "

So go and see what this new feature can do for you, experiment with it, and contact us through the form at the top right of the site with any questions or feedback you may have.

And as usual, enjoy the Archives!

I really do love the Archives and the hard work that not only the admins put into the project but also the players that spend time and effort making the entries. So thanks to both parties.

I look forward to exploring the new features Calenon. Thankyou

Laurelin Archives is to our server a wonderful gift and tool : A diary, a gallery, an address book, an event calendar, and much more... and everyone can participate easily !
What i especially appreciate is that there is no forum nor comment, so your works are not wasted with silly or negative criticisms, no pointless debates, it's very wise, peaceful and relaxing.

Thank you for that and as a site admin myself, elsewhere, I should have known to look for a contact form but in all honesty (until I saw that the thread had been bumped) I'd forgotten I'd registered!

Do you have friends that you think should join you on the Archives? Maybe you've told them to register, but they're dragging their feet? Give them a push in the right direction by formally inviting them to the site, as long as you know their email! Go to your account page and find the "Invitations" tab to get started!
