Kveltrid, I thank you for your warm words of welcome.

The Elders is a kinship of ..*cough*...mature...*cough*.. players that is almost as old as the game. Respect for others and their play styles is built into our very constitution, as is the principle that Elders should make the world a better place for other players. Furthermore, we're (very proudly) a mixed kin of wanderers and end game players (and both!). We're considering Laurelin because we think you'll be a fit for us and we'll be a fit for you. We also hear your player base tends towards the more mature, which is obviously appealing to old fogeys like ourselves. It is unthinkable that an Elder would treat an RP-er with anything other than respect, and I rather think some of our members would quite like to dip their toes into RP-ing themselves.

But it is truly lovely to read a post like yours. I know our server had become too small, especially for those who like to group and play end-game. Nonetheless, it's been a close-knit server with a low troll population and many of us are feeling bereft and a little lost. To have someone tell us we'd be welcome, in such a warm way, counts for a lot. Thank you.

Our kin will vote, we will see where we end up. I have a personal preference, but as long as the Knights stick together its ok.

Gonna miss Gillie... nice and quiet. See you on the other side.

Evernight is not much different from Gilrain, the population, before it became recommended server, was about the same as yours.
I remember both servers had about the same result in the Bounder's bounty event.

So don't worry. You'll find a community same as yours among the Evernight players.

Hey Smartie, long time no see!

As you might know my name is not RP-proof and tbh, even though its a ridiculous name, I've grown quite fond of being the servers 'Stealthy'. Many of our kinnies feel the same about their non'RP name and would not want to change it for 100 dollars. Therefor Evernight was the easy unanimous decision.

Hope to see as many kins on Evernight as possible though, think it's a great server to be on.

    Hello Gilrain

Having been a part of this great community since 2008 I quite genuinely will miss this place. I am of course guilty of not making an effort of logging much in the past few years as some other stalwarts on this server do (/salute) and I do wonder, if I had have logged in more with others...perhaps....just perhaps..

Really enjoyed my time here and some of the EM raids we had (Does anyone remember the 30min+ battles on TR stairs! - or jumping out of the Wolves den or meeting kaz at his rock! or possibly the best night ever on Gilrain, the last week of Gilrain Codies before being transferred to US where the GM's sent 100's of npcs to battle against each other! - god that was fun, being punted from stab all the way to LC! LOL - what a great week - I think I still have some footage of that somewhere... genuinely good times

I will also miss tribes on creep as well, because I think the tribes will be split up by players following the Kin - a very sad consequence indeed... that will definitely make it harder for some..

But we are here now, and I think most will agree, population is rather key in an MMO, so I don't object to why our server has been chosen.

I know some kins have made up there mind and whether I join them or not, I sincerely wish them well in there new home, and believe they will set a great example and become well respected in no time at all. Good luck to you all!

From my own research into the two available servers, I think either will have its good and bad sides to contend with, but I will go where my Kin agrees to go. Have had some great times in DoME and I think I will be there to the end (Apologies to DoME - But I was invited :P) and look forward to seeing us grow again when we decide which server to settle. This is a discussion we are still having but I know when we decide Taik will post and let everyone know.

Whilst its a sad time for Gil, seeing everyone pop up again on the forum does remind me of days gone by and its great to read peoples posts - its great to see you all again. (I remember you smart! )

I Do like Anarions suggestion, a gilrain chat...GILOOC - turn every other chat channel off and your back home! :P

Wherever you go guys take care and my sincerest best wishes to you all

I have created chars on both Laurelin and Evernight so that I could observe the chat and research the housing situation on both. My own observations suggest that housing should not be a problem except for where a kin wishes to purchase a complete neighbourhood. Something may have to be asked for to enable that type of purchase. As far as chat went I found nothing to bother me on Evernight. However, on Laurelin, it was obvious that some RP people are being decidedly childish re the naming policy and will undoubtedly be reporting everyone who upsets them regardless of how petty the complaint is. My decision is therefore that my accounts and Kin will move to Evernight.

Completely off topic, but those were fun time indeed Darv, funniest thing ever was freep raids running into Kaz and just passing by like he IS the rock and leaving him be lol

    Whatever happened to those days....

*sigh* Will miss Gilrain and it's people (even ones from old that didnt exactly see eye to eye with), hopefully see many of you on the other side.

To those that part ways, good luck on your adventures, travellers.

Either way, no matter what way people go, we will all be Gilrainians at heart!

P.S. Sorry for going off topic Smart

I am part of the big RP community of Laurelin and I know our concerns.

We would WELCOME non-RP kinships as well as RP kinships. Our greatest concern is to have Laurelin influxed with trolls and have them destroy the RP environment. In Laurelin the players do not have to RP but moral, social, decent behavior is valued above all else.

We try to keep our server clean for RP and decent gaming. So, kinships (people who already have social ties and friendship) would be very welcome in Laurelin.

Just my two-cents, of course, but if you are a RPing or non-RPing dwarf kinship thinking to move to Laurelin, we would also love to be in touch with you as Durin's Folk of Laurelin.

Most of the Laurelin population do not RP. As I am a RPer on my many characters, I also have non-RP characters in Laurelin, solely for questing.

Hmm, what you are saying Aegor is putting me off Laurelin a little. Though it would be nice if KveltrildAmberbraid (or anyone from Laurelin) could comment on this as well; towards naming policy on Laurelin, will it be somewhat relaxed towards the influx of already existing players with their non-rp names? Or is it really like Aegor experienced and people need to prepare for a lot of rp naming violation reports from upset rp players?

It's nice to hear a Evernight voice as well, thanks -Tanyc- for sharing that info.

@Stealthiness Yes, yes long time no see. Don't expect to see that much of either though, just popping on every now and then, nothing else
@Darvius Good to see you again to, and it's good to talk about such events which made Gilrain come to life. There are some brilliant moments to share indeed
@Ellie Wasn't that much off-topic really and I hear what you are saying as well, of course Gilrain the new Gilrain enclave on whichever other remaining server won't be the Gilrain as we know it. Whatever happens things will change at least somewhat, but let's try to limit that change by being as much bunched together as possible.

I do feel sorry for RP-ers on Laurelin. A group that were already a relatively small minority are going to become an extremely small minority. I can understand them feeling defensive and that always beings out the childishness in a minority of people.

But unless Turbine want their GMs to be working full time on names for the next 6 months, I'd imagine they'd have to take a relaxed view of characters named in good faith on other servers. So, yeah, "Dwarfsexgod" is going to be zapped (I hope) but more neutral ones will surely be ok. There's some support of this view in that Williamfour checked out his name with Turbine (not sure how, didn't ask) and they told him it would be ok.

I found way more trolling on Ev and actually people on Laurelin were very nice when I was "visiting" before the servers were announced. Basically, there's a lot of chance involved. Are the trolls online? The childish ones? The gobby kids? Mileage will vary every day and every time of day.

Having discussed this with a few other Friends/Kins, whilst not 100% settled im not far off it and have more or less plumbed for Laurelin. Few reasons, and whilst u can check currently what is happening on the 2 remaining servers its a bit like cutting the grass before an earthquake hits, totally useless as its all gonna change and very quickly when both of the EN servers get swamped with peeps from other servers. Gilrain has always had a very helpful community and a very mature one, my gut tells me what ever chance u have of maintaining that spirit it is less likely on thee Non RP server. I do know that some peeps will have a conflict with naming, however I do feel that unless it is offensive/silly (spiderman, etc) Turbine may not enforce a change. Remember the name has to be reported and with the influx over the next 3 months onto the RP server the naming police may well get tired.
It is sad to see lot of peeps ive played with over the years moving to another server. But I look at the Kin List and currently im the only member that still plays from 2007. So ive been loosing friends for the last 8 years to RL, Other games and even to other servers few years back, but guess what ive made loads of new ones and had loads of new peeps joining Kin. Life goes on and LOTRO life goes on.
Regardless of who goes were I wish to take this opportunity to wish all happiness in there new LOTRO world and I also want to take time to say I intend to keep one toon on gilrain till the last day, I would like to invite all to a party n Bree to count down the closing of the server (hopefully it will not be 31/12)
Maybe even get an event going the last night before transfers can take place, to say goodbye to old friends

No Ma'm, a player from Laurelin sayd my name would not be a problem at all on Laurelin.
So I made a Williamfour on Laurelin today and I was surprised by the warm welcome I got.
There is a fear trolls and respectless people will join, I told them you will find them on every server unfortunatly but we do not have many on the Gilrain server.
Took the chance to tell them kinships work together and we have social events, the World chat is almost family friendly and we do not accept disruptive behaviour on Gilrain.
Players on Laurelen told me we are welcome if we act like I sayd.

I understand their fear, there were some players from other servers there who created a riot.
In my opinion, if we start to act like guests on their server and respect their own playstile the Gilrainers will fit in well and fast.
They have server wide social events too, show your face and they will see we are not all bad

    Hello Smartbean,

Yes, I know that some people report non-rp names in Laurelin... Their reason is that this is a RP server so names should stay in line with the Middle Earth lore. Though I do not know how GMs react to this. I personally would not mind seeing a name such as "Smartbean". It is not offensive or negative in any way.
In our RP kinship we have a character surnamed "Smartbeard"

Sometimes when we are holding events (RP military drills or markets), non-rping people stop and watch and enjoy it. It is okay and very welcome unless they jump on our heads or force-emote, that would be trolling.

Laurelin is a great server but there is a <Minority> who take it upon themselves to be the naming police.
I have chars. already on Laurelin and I have friends who have created toons with their names off Gilrain and they were not outrageous but a GM changed their name to something naff and they were expected to pay to get it changed.
There are some legit lore police and some trolls who do it for kicks.

unless you have lore proof names then you will end up having to pay to et them changed when a gm changes.

DONT ASSUME LEEWAY OR DISCRETION FROM GM'S THEY DONT HAVE THE TIME

If your names are fine then Laurelin is a perfect server with nice peeps

    Hello everyone^.^

Well probably going to split toons between the two worlds so would see everyone anyway if i'm on; that said the naming policy thing is a bit of a concern to say the least.

The principal appeal of laurelin is a relaxed, mature bunch of folks, but if names are going to get reported even if they are not rude or offensive; thats a concern; if anything the opposite of relaxed and mature, so hey hum.

There are only two servers to choose from really for english speakers, so its a bit harsh to slam peoples names. If everyone is called (standard prefix)-(Standard suffix) it would be a very dull world indeed.

As for random names, I could flap my arms about it, for example I took to trying to name toons in my native welsh, which is included in the game as a theme in dunland. Ofc having so many consonants the game kept deciding they were gibberish.... by a company who used Draigoch the red. Btw this means 'red dragon the red' so you can imagine how much faith I have in names in 'appropriate' names being enforced >.<

Given how many names are taken, it exacerbates things somewhat if some random person decides that being called Jonesie is bad and effects their experience somehow and that as a man captain you can only choose blandomir to play on laurelin.

Here's hoping both servers will have much to offer and lots of great folks.

Are they really that insane on laurelin when it comes to names? 0.-

Of course not I've been on there for ages I haven't been reported once to my knowledge . That's an achievement for me as you know .

It will have a lot of exploiters who are heading there from Withy and Snowy so nothing will change . It already has a lot from Withy so enjoy . Some of these you know well and left Gilrain years ago to spoil pastures new .
It has always puzzled me OW why you would play a game if you are looking for "maturity" ?

that being said I wish you and other Gilranians well as we are all attracted to the same flame .

With a bit of luck I may even see that wargy of yours , wishful thinking ... Nos da

    Hi Smarty, Hi All.

Like Smarty, I have been on Gilrain since the start...well, 3 weeks after launch. I was on Laurelin during Beta and although RP was quite fun then, and I enjoyed light RP in the game - when the servers went live, Laurelin became unbearable! Too many RP hippies telling you off for not being in character - this really put a damper on the whole experience.

For that reason, I for one, will be catching the boat to Evernight - There at least, you can RP all you like or as little as you like, nobody will judge you. So, wherever you guys go, you will have that title 'Of Gilrain' So, that at least will allow others to recognise a friendly char in a new world.

Those who don't go to Evernight, I wish you well - we have had some amazing times over the last 8 years! With lots of friendships formed...and lost over that time. This is just another evolution in Lotro and like before we will get used to it.

So, until the server is closed down, I look forward to cacthing up with you guys in game.

Arrrgghhh still undecided! One minute it's Evernight then I realise how hard it will be to play there with the bulk of new EN accounts being made there as they'll see RP and run a mile.
Then I decide on Laurelin but know that some of my names don't follow the 'lore'. They aren't offensive by any means - but they don't follow the rules for man, elf or hobbit names so then I am put off because I might have to change them.

One thing I don't get though - if the people that report are so worried about immersion, why do they have names showing in the first place. I can't remember ever seeing Dave, Bill or Betty above fellow real-lifers heads...

Ger please make an event and post it on the forum, I would love to be there and participate! Got tears in my eyes just thinking about it... I'll miss Gilrain dearly. Loved our little community.

William, I agree with you but would also like to remind people on Laurelin and Evernight that this transfer is forced on us, and we are left with very few choices! I ever respected everyone, but I expect the same in return.

Omerta still didn't make any final decision but so far more people voted for Laurelin. We are also considering, and hoping, to end up on the same server with the kins we always had good relationship with. At any rate, I know some friends will be lost in the process unfortunately. This being said, I would like to thank each one of you for the great time and fun we had on our dear Gilrain. It will be missed, and it won't be forgotten! I wish you all good luck in your future adventures, and some of you, see you later on another server.
