Gilrain and the imminent server merger(s)

The Order of Istari will be moving to Evernight following a vote by active kin members.

On a personal note, I see from this thread that some familiar names who have been kind enough to tolerate my amateur Loremastery in various PUGs over the years will be heading to Laurelin. As we Gilrainians go our separate ways I'd like to wish all of you moving to a different home all the best.

I too plan on leaving an alt behind for the final hours of the server.

I don´t know whats happening, I dont log for ages and I don't have a clue about game mechanics since the skill tree update actually My son plays with my toons sometimes but no idea what he's been doing online So, Im not updated about this merge thingie. Ill move to wherever all old Gilrainers move..Laurelin??? it seems..

At first I thought so as well, though thinking about it and experiencing conversations on both servers made me sway towards Laurelin. And since our allies Children of the Sun (CotS) chose to go to Laurelin, I think Broken will follow. I'll make a kin mail shortly and outline the procedure when transferring is open to Gilrain.

Seeing as our time on Gilrain is drawing to a close, I just wanted to wish you all the very best and thank you for making these last 8 1/2 years as much fun as possible. There have been ups and downs, but on a whole it was a lovely time. Those of you who journey on to Evernight I wish a speedy transfer and see you on the other side. The rest of you I wish good luck on your new server and wear your "of Gilrain" title with pride.

Farewell to old friends who have departed for Evernight! Gilrain was a small server but huge in terms of friendship and community.

We also found ourselves with an unwelcome -1 after our name. But after a brainwave and a polite, but impassioned, plea to a GM we are now officially "The Elders Kinship".

(Although the name The Elders had gone, we can find no trace of them. But hey ho. Them's the rules that Turbine set)

For all the sadness at old friends gone different ways, we are delighted that so very many of our kin-friends have also come to Laurelin.

Journey well people. Carry old Gilrain in your hearts! Forget the (small number of) trolls and remember all the very best times we had together.

There are a few RP naming trolls on Laurelin that keeps reporting names that the don't think fit in the LoTR lore, and the GM's has been renaming characters to something they see fit. I see a few names in your post that's probably are in danger. There are a few threads on that subject on that matter going.

Not trying to discourage you, from what I've seen its a nice server with a nice population buth there are those trolls. Just a fair warning that you risk a forced rename. One can just hope that they relax the rules a bit but we've not heard an official word on that matter yet.

Hi everybody, just a quick word from Unity to say we are settling in at Laurelin, more or less intact (although Cara we also have that irritating '-1' to deal with!) Personally speaking, I've had no naming issues as yet, though I expect someone to object to my F2P crafting/storage alts when they eventually notice them. The names are not lore-safe but not offensive as such, just amusing names made to help kinnies get amusing titles from alts I never play. Ah well.....

I have a F2P alt still on Gilrain, renamed specially for the occasion, and she will remain in Gilrain until they close it on us. Any last day event will see her there, although she is of course in a kinship of one these days. I parked her in Bree and pop in occasionally, just to brush the dust off. She intends to be the last hobbit standing when all other lights go out, if at all possible.

The Laurelin community seems really quite welcoming and friendly, I've already had some great fun with the natives and talked to some fine people. A bit of light RP whenever in Bree or any other hub is fine with me, it's just slightly more of the type of things I used to do a bit anyway. The trolls are small in number, just like Gilrain's were, and are easily ignored - chat tab filters have their uses! As has been said, I imagine they were concerned that the sudden influx of new people would destroy the character of "their" server (it belongs to us all too now!) and I can understand that feeling. Imagine if it were the other way round?

Generally speaking I think things have gone pretty well, considering the possibilities for chaos and conflict. The vast majority of Laurelinians have made real efforts to make us feel welcome and encourage integration in as positive a manner as possible. It's been great to see so many familiar faces there and I was especially pleased Tankit did not change outfit (yet) because I could still recognise Steve in his new incarnation! It has also been a real joy to run into most of the kinships we had hoped to continue to play alongside.

Onwards, fellow Gilrainians! We will always have those memories/screenies of our time on the server of our origins. Happy gaming to you all.....

Unless something happens in RL I intend to be here on the last day to watch the Sun go down one last time on the Gilrain server. It will more than likely be a low level alt but I will standing outside the Prancing Pony. Maybe we should all leave a little toon on this server for this event.

Last I heard, the new shutdown date was the 4th of April. Is any kind of organised event planned?

I moved all my alts when the kin moved, so I can't join you unfortunately. But I will raise a glass to Gilrain on the new server, Laurelin.
