LOTR: The Short Version
The top angels in heaven are worried about one of the followers of a fallen top angel.
This follower was screwing up the whole life-on-earth thing, which they were pretty much responsible for.
They decided to send down some of the lower angels to see about managing this.
The lead lower angel got sort of wrapped up in what the bad guy was doing and he went bad also.
So it was up to the second-in-command lower angel to take care of stuff.
He was a sort of super being, without wings, and with about 90% of his regular powers tuned out.
He fumbled his way thru and the bad guy was defeated and he came home to heaven and they let him bring with him some of the folks he met on the way.
