Tell The Community Team - Outreach & Information - 3/4/2010

    How it works:
From time to time we'll be asking you questions, and here in our thread, you tell us: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand.

    Ground Rules:
Because we want this to be a place where we can gather valuable feedback from our community we're going to be a little tougher on the rules enforcement here. Please read both the Ground Rules and the Forum Guidelines posts before you do anything else. These will be strictly enforced.

Why do we sometimes ask you to limit your answers?
Because what we’re looking for are the top issues or absolute best answers you can give. Anyone can come up with a top ten list of things they’d like to see. Filling out a list is easy, but coming up with the most important issues or the things that really matter takes a bit more thought. Those are the responses we’re looking for.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Question 1
What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    1- Friends/Kinship
    2- Official LOTRO websites.
3- Unofficial LOTRO sites, blogs, podcasts.
    4- Other. Please explain.

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
    1-
    2-

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1-

2- Live Chat (From the website of a kin to the IN-GAME chat). This should only be allowed if the player logged in is IN the kin.

What is your primary source of LOTRO information?

I don't have a "primary" source; I get bits from all over the intertubes.

I read the news on the official site, I read a number of different MMG-related network sites (these days primarily Massively and MMORPG.com), I read a few player forums, and I listen to Moormur and Casual Stroll to Mordor.

We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).

In-game Town Criers. Aside from the Festivals, those guys haven't been updated in over a year. In Asheron's Call, the Town Criers were updated every month (as was Ulgrim, the "Town Liar").

    Puppet shows.

Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.

I don't use my.lotro except to enter lotteries, and I can't think of anything that would get me to do so. Sorry!

    don't really care on this

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
1-not really a feature, but faster load time. Load time on my.lotro.com is abysmal

2- Official LOTRO websites first. Kinship second.
    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
None for me. Don't use any of those.
Unless you'd like to send out more email
    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
1-Ability to link/access multiple accounts from one login.
2-Ability to test out how different traits, equipment, legacies, etc would affect our characters (including LIs and soldiers). This may require that our actual LIs be linked instead of the generic Lorebook copy (perhaps flag or highlight the legacies with their level/rank). Okay, this would probably count as more than one, but what the heck...

    Question 1
What is your primary source of LOTRO information?

2- Official LOTRO websites. ---> the forums

4- Other. Please explain. ---> Maybe once every 4 to 6 months I will look something up on unofficial sites like mmodb, because the lorebook is largely useless information, not nearly detailed enough to be of any value

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
    1- MyLotro
2- e-mail list to our personal e-mail accounts

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
1-cosmetic control of weapon and shield view (I don't need to see weapons and shields I'm not using, I just want to be able to turn off the ones I am using when I wear cosmetics) For example, when I wear my blacksmith apron I hate needing to unequip my bow and/or shield
    2-more flexible housing decoration system
Aldekim (95 Landroval) Aldekim (65 Meneldor), Aldekim (13 Arkenstone),Aldekim (33 Laurelin), Aldekim (11 Nimrodel), Aldekim (Crickhollow), Aldekim (Elendilmir)

Official websites. Forums, dev diaries, etc. Friends get things wrong, unofficial sites get out of date. I like my information straight from the horse's mouth. Primary sources. And frankly, erroneous information on the forums tends to get corrected pretty quickly, while erroneous information from other sources just sits and rots and misinforms people.

    Question 2
[COLOR=Orange]We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
Podcasts. The podcast interview with the Skirmish devs was excellent, because it really humanized them and gave nuance to their reasons for decisions that doesn't always come across in a forum.

Facebook and Twitter really wouldn't add anything for me, since I check the forums daily, so I can't really say I want to see more use of those. I guess I don't have a number 2.

    Question 3
[COLOR=Orange]Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1. Give me a way to check my friends and kin list to see who is online right now. If I could check that from my phone, or laptop, without needing to load up the game, then I might be better able to log in when I've got a group of friends on, rather than logging in and hoping to find a group to hang out with.

    2. Let me look at my inventory and my vault to see what items I have on each character. This would be extra handy for times when I'm on one character, and know I need a Sapphire Shard, but can't remember which alt is holding the Sapphire Shards. I'm not asking for the ability to manage my vault and move items around via My LOTRO, since I know that could be a data safety nightmare, but just being able to look would be helpful.

The information delivery methods you use now are fine, just stop lying when you use them. (Still waiting on those mirkwood class skills, class quests, and virtues...)

Could you make it load any faster? I don't use it at all because it takes a week to load anything in it.

New features are pointless if its impossible to use because of the speed.

I can only think of one feature at the moment and it would be the ability to see your character like we do now, but maybe "test fit" another piece of armour or jewellery and see how it would affect your stats.

    Q1: official Turbine websites.

Q2: have members of Turbine's community team be liasons for the largest guilds on each server...with rights on those guilds' private forums.

    Question 2

I'm old school in that I'd like some developers or community relations people playing the game and speaking with players in the game.

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.

1- PvMP Wartab Stats on character sheets

I am fine with the Forum and Lorebook (Dev Diaries). No need for anything else; except perhaps those Dev Chats we use to have (as long as we read it later on the Forums).

Q3: Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
1- I'd like the "level" of the characters back when looking at the character list.
2- It would be cool to "test" different items/traits/etc.

    1-

I can tell I'm getting old...I can't deal with being bombarded with all this information constantly! Who knew I'd become obsolete at age 35!?!?! Back in the old days, if we wanted to know something we had to buy a newspaper or take a trip to the library. Now it seems like if you don't forcefully inject information directly into people's brains they can't possibly be expected to know it. Anyway...not your fault, just a sign of the times. To answer the question:

    1- In-game news-feed/bulletin board. Yeah, I know...that's a horse of a different color.
2- I'd possibly listen to podcasts

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1-
    2-

    Hmm....
1- ooh...a virtual "dressing room" of sorts...where you could equip armour, jewellery, etc. from the Lorebook and see how it changes your stats. (Easy for me to say, hehe.)
2- perhaps some kinship tools...ways to send messages to all players who have characters in the kin, or a place to post information only viewable by people in the kin? I suppose the problem is the people who don't link their characters to their player profiles so are supposed to stay anonymous. It's hard to communicate with people when we don't even know who they are.
    Sonsy 85 Hunter; Lodellee 85 Minstrel; Bellamee 85 Guardian; Tennac 84 Champion; Sunnwyn 78 Captain; Missgrey 76 Lore-master; Pwnie 55 Burglar; Meowzen 48 Warden; Elsbetha 12 Rune-keeper

    Mostly 1 and 2.

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).

More dev interaction with community via forums/podcast.
Especially the class forums, where it seems the devs have been far to absent and ignoring class problems.

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.

Ability to go anonymous/private to everyone/anyone but friends.
Probably not doable, but a way to play around with gear/stats/traits would be fun. To be able to drag items from lorebook on to my character to see how it effects stats/looks.

    Question 1
What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    2- I'm a forum junkie

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
Hmmm...I'm going to say that for me the current means of communication are fine. The most important things are emailed, very important things are on the launcher, and the somewhat less important are on the forums. If one tries to find information it isn't hard to track it down. Some people simply won't see the info no matter how many times they're banged over the head with it.

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
1- The ability to see all kinships (it makes me very sad when my.lotro claims my alt kin has been disbanded, I hope this bug gets fixed someday)
2- I'd love to see virtues added, and it would also be nice to show the legacies on equiped weapons

Re: Tell The Community Team - Outreach & Information - 3/4/2010

What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    3. Unofficial sites because they sometimes have the information before Turbine puts it up. For example, Turbine will be at PAX (according to the PAX site), but Turbine hasn't posted any information regarding it.

Also, it's nice to get multiple third-party information regarding news and what not instead of the standard press release.

We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
I think it's better off to keep communication in one area instead of spreading it out amongst multiple sources.

Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1. API's that let me post information on personal sites.
    2. The ability to track auctions and/or get notifications when auctions have sold or expired.
    3. The ability to, at least, read the headers of any in-game mail, and to see who sent it.

The forums are my main source of information.

Podcasts are great. I've really enjoyed some of the recent ones with developers and community reps.

    Question 1
What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    2- Official LOTRO websites.

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
1- No new avenues needed. Give your class devs a keyboard and encourage them to post in your existing forums.
2- The more you spread your communication venues, the more time that's wasted running this way and that updating them. Focus on core strengths and stop running this way and that pursuing stupid fads.

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1- An account-wide Gold/Cash Leaderboard...
2- Seriously, it's good as it is. Give the web devs a month off their job.

Re: Tell The Community Team - Outreach & Information - 3/4/2010

    Question 1
What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    1- Friends/Kinship
    2- Official LOTRO websites.
3- Unofficial LOTRO sites, blogs, podcasts.
    4- Other. Please explain.

It's the official sites that I get information from primarily.

    Question 2
We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
    1-
One thought is the use of training/introductory videos like the ones that XBox Live uses. I mean, they don't have to be in-game, but it would be nice if there was a LOTRO 101 video section on the official site or Tech Support area, where mechanics, updates and other subjects were "talked through" by the Community/Development staff or other Turbine "names of note".
2- I'd like to see access to the forums and/or my.lotro.com added in-game, simplified in the same way that the Lorebook was.

    Question 3
Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.
    1-
It's really the same one I'd like to have added in-game, which is allied kinships. Obviously, the in-game addition would have to come first.
2- Real-time "Control" status of the Ettenmoors, by server, where people can see in advance how things are going in PvMP before they log on with their freeps or creeps.
