To the upper-right of the post, you'll see a "Scale". Click on the Scale and select 'I approve' for positive rep, and 'I disapprove' for negative.

Until you get to 1500 positive rep you will not be able to give out negative reputation though.

Re: Awarding Rep on the forums

There's really very little need to neg-rep someone anyhow.

I disagree pretty passionately with a lot of posters on these forums, but it's super rare that I'd even consider giving neg-rep.

IMHO that's reserved for active trolling and other behaviour that is borderline reportable.

Yeah, I know. I just broke 600 this morning, so it'll be awhile yet for me. And there's been a lot of negative rep worthy junk on the forums over the last couple of days too.

How long is the wait after you give someone rep until you can give it to them again? In the past days, I've tried to give rep to Made of Lions and Barruktp, and it says I need to spread it around before giving it to them again.

Thing is, I can't even remember the last time I previously read one of their posts, much less gave them rep for one of their posts. In fact, it's a rare day that I give *anyone* rep. I don't really care that much for it as an activity.

I think it's a secret or something b/c I haven't been able to figure out a) how much rep I can give in a 24 hour period before it cuts me off or b) how many other people I have to rep before I can rep the same person again.

Okay, I just went and gave a couple other people rep, and now I can suddenly give Barruktp rep, so that must be how it works. I just haven't been giving enough. Thanks so much. +rep

Yep, when you give rep to someone you have to give rep to others before giving rep again to someone. It does help to prevent people from giving rep to one particular person in a short amount of time.

My light seems to be gray. Does anyone know where I can get a 60w green bulb?

Better yet, how about 5 green and 5 bright green ones? I want to show that I am a reputable person and I understand pretty colours manage this quite well. Nothing in red though, red makes school children get depression now or something. It's quite strange.

You know, as vapid as most of my posts are most of them get positive rep. In fact, the more vapid my posts are the more rep I get for them.

There does need to be a serious penalty for flagging someone with negative rep that was unwarranted under forum guidlines. Two of my kinnies were pretty upset the other night in vent chat over negative rep they had received for what I took as two very well written posts. As far as I could tell the only thing I could find in common was that both posts were highly critical of Turbine PvMP, but I can't really get into the PvMP arguments, I just don't follow that community very well, not my cup of tea. It does seem to get heated though.

There should be a penalty for negative reping someone just because you don't agree with them. I think my two kinnies will be leaving the game soon. They're already upset with the game and this has irritated them considerably more. This was their only outlet for venting... other than in vent... where I have to listen to it.

But still, they are paying customers, soon to be "were" paying customers. Systems like this are fine on free sites, but when you're giving one paying customer the ability to harass another paying customer what exactly are you trying to accomplish, other than silence and laziness? Should Turbine consider letting go any community related staff now that this is in place? Should they move those resources over to more development. Are they needed any more really with an autopilot at the helm? What prevents these mob appointed "Rep"resentatives from turning into a squad of brown shirted goose stepping Eric Eichman Cartman hallway monitors? Has it already happened? Do they even have that right when they pay the same fee to use the forums as everyone else? Turbine started this on DDO right, isn't it a free to play game, but don't we all pay a fee to be here on the Lotro forums? A bit different isn't that?

Sure, when Turdram shows up crackin' wise its negative rep time, but when you're abusing it against people you simply don't agree with, there needs to be a punishment for that.

How do you check your rep #? I looked in my profile, wasn't listed there, and hovering my mouse over the green dot just gives a title. <confused>

EDIT: nevermind, found it in control panel -- thanks gildhur!

You have your rep display disabled. Go to User CP, Edit Options, and tobble the very first box back on. Then your little green lights will turn on.

In your User CP, it's the list at the bottom titled "Latest Reputation Received". It may be minimized, so push the little yellow arrow button on the bottom left to display the latest X entries.

First off, I don't have the ability to give negative reputation. That said, if I did, it would be for those who intentionally derail a thread simply because they have nothing to add or validly argue, so they derail in the hopes of taking away from a well thought argument.

Next on my bad rep list would be those who circumvent the filters and are course and insulting. As you stated, we are all paying customers. That means were all at the same level of deserved respect and go by the same rules. If the word "Fish" is a censored word, being cleaver and spelling it as "Fishh" does not make you brilliant, it makes you arrogant. In addition, there are far too many ways that one can intelligently cut down ones debate opponent with well thought out retorts, one does not need to resort to crudeness.

On my positive list are those who get their point across in a manner that does so without negating the opinions of others. Tell us that this is "your opinion" and why you think it's valid. Don't try and tell is that your entire server is empty now because the change that you wanted was not made. Don't tell us you are right because the above poster is stupid. You just lost all credibility when you do that. I don't have to agree with the content of your post to award you with Rep, I just have to believe that it was well thought out.

Willingness to admit that one is wrong also is a positive vote for me. I have often been persuaded to change my view, not always my opinion, on a matter that I was not as well versed in as I thought.

Re: Awarding Rep on the forums

I'm about one positive rep away from being able to neg rep. So I've been thinking on this topic quite a bit recently.

On one hand, most people pos rep people when they agree with them, or the poster says something that sums up their feelings.

But neg repping just based on how much you agree or disagree seems...well...yucky.

I think neg rep is best used more as a flag for abusive or poor posting rather than any facet of opinion. IMHO anyhow...

I wonder if I'll feel that way in a year or so when a large number of players have 1500+ rep and instead of it just being a tiny few who can dish it out most can?

Haha...a friend and I were kinda racing the last 100 points...each claiming that the first one to 1500 would neg rep the other just to keep them back. In the end neither of us would've done it...but it's funny to think about.

I was in the same sort of race with an anti-friend, but neither of us budged when we got there.
