Do we really want more lotteries?

A first glance at my thread topic might lead you to believe I'm posting in the wrong forum. I am not.

I see very few of the contributors to the raid/instance forum have bothered to make their views known in the current 'ask the community' thread from the dev's. From the responses it would seem that 99% of the current respondents would actually like the dev's to spend more time devoting their resources to lotteries and getting 'free' stuff such as the symbol of celebrimbor. Do we really want the game to get even more ezmode? Why not give out 100 symbols everyday? Why should anyone even have to finish SG? Just give everyone everything (and make it random), what a fun game!

So seriously, make a post in the thread and let your thoughts be heard, otherwise we'll be getting more of this stuff at the expense of actual content.

Re: Do we really want more lotteries?

personally i dont care about symbols being handed out from lotteries because fact is theyre being handed out from a 6man instance which has undermined the value of raiding.

due to the fact drop rate from BG is so low.

add to that no way to get symbol from skirmish or lvl 60 raids which I think a strong case can be made for seeing we can get them from a now easy 6man and lotteries.

tbh though once 1st ages are released in next book imo, then 2nd ages will become very common. Just think turbine has really stretched us thin.

I would think (now that the system is already set-up), that the lottos are a good example of something that can be added that does not take resources/time from other areas (content design/engineering/world-building/etc.).

I can understand arguments about the lottos diluting the economy, impacting crafted items market values (tokens, pots, food), and maybe even devaluing items that are obtained (Scrolls, tokens, Symbols). I just don't see how setting up a handful a lottos a week (even a day) impacts other Turbine resources as much as being described. **shrug** It must just be me.

Yes, but do you really think developer time should be spent on creating more lotteries rather than content??

If I want to play lotteries I'll go to Vegas. I want the money I'm giving them to be spent on the game that I joined because of the content.

    Do *I* want more Lotteries?

Well, you can't really knock getting a swing at Free Stuff. More Lotteries are not a bad thing in and of themselves.

And I seriously doubt they are taking any Dev Time to do the Lotteries now that they are in-place. Someone selects an Item, Begin and End Dates, and any Restriction Flags and clicks on the [OK] Button. I seriously doubt that Turbine has to have a Dev rewrite the Lottery code every single Lottery.

However, the downside I see to more Lotteries is this:

1.) When you ask your Kinmates if they want to do an SG or BG Run and they tell you "I can't, I'm busy doing my 'Dailies'!" and they mean entering the Lotteries, not running Daily Skirmishes or Daily Repeatable Quests.

2.) Entering the Lotteries becomes pseudo-Mandatory in order to keep up with the Have Curve and not be a Have-Not. Meaning, if the Lotteries become the most reliable way to get important In-Game Gear, to where you are compelled to enter just to stay up with everyone else who has won that Gear, then it is defeating the purpose of a Lottery.

Otherwise, Free is Free and I'm not going to complain if we get more Free Stuff.

I'm not sure it takes much developer time to organize a lottery.

Don't worry, Turbine is just trolling everyone. All the most popular requests in that thread will be added as things you can buy via micro-transaction, not given away via lotteries for free.

In point of fact, it takes exactly none. Generally speaking I make the lotteries, the web dev team (who also do not make in game quests, etc) makes the tech that results in the lottery. The lotteries have 0 impact on what in game content does or does not get made.
