    Someone buy Turbine a clock

First the Yule Fest ends early. Now the server maintenence says the server will be down at 6 am, yet is was down when I tried to log in at 515...AGAIN. I'll donate one of mine.

The servers went down exactly as scheduled, at 6am /servertime. Are you perhaps using daylight savings time, or live 1hr behind /servertime?

From me to you with <3 !!!

Next time just breathe before posting a rant, compared to that 'other' MMO I think Turbine does a wonderful job with keeping their maintenance on schedule as much as possible.

Re: Someone buy Turbine a clock

The Yule festival ended on time and the servers came down today at exactly the announced time.

All times zones and dates stated are based on the time in Boston, MA USA. We also post the current GMT off set (Currently -5) to help those in different time zones translate that into their own times.

It's very common for us to see reports from players that times were off by an hour, especially in the calendar. This is because the calendar reflects the timezone you told it you live in. So an event slated to end at Midnight on Jan 1 our time would end at 11pm Dec 31 central, 9pm Pacific. From a player's perspective in those time zones it might appear to be a 'day early'.

Before you donate a clock to Turbine, I suggest you make sure it is properly set. The game went down exactly on time, to the minute. Last time it went down for maintenance the game even came back UP precisely on time, I am hoping it does so again this time.

Ah well, don't feel bad...at least you chose an appropriate account name.

The problem with being in the Boston area (Westwood, I believe) is the use of traffic circles on the road nets. Visitors to that area end up going round-and-round trying to find the right exit. The locals -- like Turbine employees -- have gotten used to the traffic circles, but they end up getting to work quite dizzy.

This is one reason the devs are slightly off their ballgame these days (like the Red Sox).

Unfortunately, the traffic circles have another dire effect; with so many in the same vicinity, they create a vortex -- a time vortex -- that causes all external viewers of Turbine activities to perceive time differently.

You are forewarned -- should you ever travel on business to Boston, beware the vortices. As you leave the airport, be forewarned that you are very likely to be caught up in a vortex -- in spite of traffic signs warning you otherwise -- and are likely to end up somewhere lost in a deep, dark tunnel under the water, forced to pay tolls on roads to nowhere, as they lead you to traffic circles and make you one of the vortex zombies yourself.

    You are doomed!

If you have windows 7 you can add additional clock which I recommend to add the eastern time zone.

Very simple solution - stop posting the times for things as EST (which means something totally different to people in other countries), and post them as /servertime instead. No more confusion over forum settings or living in different timezones.

As I post this it is 2:15am on Tuesday the 25th of January.

I'm not a Turbine slappy, but I have no complaints about them being off time. Now there have been times when they have adjusted it down, but they always give you at least a 3 minute window before they announce the change...(j/k)...

My question is, why do some things (deed caps) reset at Midnight (EST/EDT) while others (daily quests) reset at 3am?

Person who coded thems preference? Or quite possibly to limit the number of scripts going off at one time.

The launcher gave the downtime in Eastern and noted it as -5 GMT. Perhaps not everyone understands Eastern time, but they should be able to convert from GMT.

Oh man, that's so unfair! I'd planned on catching an extra hour of beauty-rest. And if you knew me, you'd know how much I need it...

Causes the server to go nuts with all the extra work at the same time.

Some guy on the project I was working on years ago had the 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, hourly and daily scripts all go off exactly at midnight. On our largest installation that was the only thing the system did for about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Our customer was peeved. Kind of like a virus scan good wild.

As a People's Democratic Republic of Massachusets "Citizen" I know better than to travel into Boston while going to and from Logan. As a decendent of Scots of Clan MacKinnon I also will avoid any and all tolls when there is a toll-free route available. In otherwords, Route 2 to 495 to 93 to 16 to 1A to Logan and reverse order getting out. And yes, Traffic Circles are evil.
