Rollback Issue Testing - Volunteers Needed!!

UPDATE: VOLUNTEER SELECTION IS DONE!! Thanks for the many volunteers; if you were not selected this time, please keep an eye out in case we need a second round of data collection done!

    Greetings, everyone!

We have been working on issues related to what appears to be individual character rollbacks. However, this particular issue is quite elusive and we need your help.

We’re looking for volunteers willing to accept a file from us via email, and insert that file into your game client folder. This file will generate a log when the issue occurs, allowing us to gather specific data which we hope will provide us a better understanding of the issue. Once the log file is generated, you would email that back to us.

If you are interested in helping out, please send me a PM with the following information:
Account Name: (DO NOT INCLUDE PASSWORD):
    Server:
    Character Name:
    Email Address:
This invitation is going to be limited, as we simply cannot take on thousands of emails. If we need additional participants, we’ll contact those who were not selected the first time around.

Keep an eye on this thread; when we’ve received enough qualified volunteers, I’ll post here – which means you won’t receive a direct reply to your PM. Also, don’t PM me questions not related to this call for volunteers. We’re all going to be busy enough trying to get this done and I’ll have to ignore any unrelated questions.

    Thank you in advance!

I'm afraid to mess with such files, myself, and don't think I have the time to do it, but I hope you get plenty of volunteers! Good luck squashing this bug!

We're really hoping some of those players who have been having the most frequent and repeatable issues with this will step in and agree to use this tool. That would be the best data collection possible.

    Question:

Is this *just* for people who've experiences rollbacks (in the moors)?

    or

Does this also include people who have had skill-delays, weird game targeting, lag, etc...?

Just realized this is in the Monster Play thread. Is this a Moors only test? I don't do a lot of PvMP, but have considered rolling a new Creep to see the changes on BullRoarer and wouldn't mind helping. If it for anything, I wouldn't mind submitting my mostly PvE chars. Also, I noticed you are asking for specific char names. Is this file Char specific? or would it catch the bugs on any char that may have it. Just curious.

I'm from EU servers so I cannot participate but in case you did not know and if this is any help I did some testing of my own.

One thing I can confirm although I know its not All the problem, is AOE skills be it healing/damage (Particularly noticeable in PvP) Causes a rollback almost 100% of the time.

If I stand in hoardale and use Death Blossom on someone standing over the borderline in Coldfells area (Just a few feet away) I get rolled back. (Didnt test to see if it had to hit more than 1 target)

Something do with boundaries was changed a couple of patches ago, some kind of sectioning (There was the lag bug which was fixed) But it's noticeable you changed the way something works since You cannot emote people across Borderlines as it says "Too far away".

Hope some of that helps you get the problem fixed,

We also get 'dropped' when crossing land block boundaries almost 100% of the time. Like your character was lifted about 6 in and then put down again. You can see/hear it happening.

If you cross the river back and forth from Hoarhallow, you will have your character lurch and 'splash' when they cross boundaries. It happens all over the world in PvE as well.

This seems to be most apparent in the Ettenmoors, but we do have some reports of it in PvE spaces as well so PvE volunteers would definitely be appreciated.

This isn't a Bullroarer test, this is a test on the live service. You would add the file to your live game install folder.

How do you know the log file has been generated? Would I have to check for the log file periodically? Or do I get a billboard saying that it's been created? Or is it going to be obvious to me when I've been rolled back so I'll know when to look for it?

Definitely excited to see a response to the issue even if it is "we have no idea, help us!".

The roll backs themselves are pretty obvious. You freeze, everyone else seems fine, you get kicked to your character select screen, and when logging back into the same character you're about thirty minutes behind. I assume once this has happened, we'd send in the log?

Here's the thing, I'm perfectly willing to participate in this test however I've never experienced a rollback issue. Should I offer my clients/data or not? It'd be purely PvE data from me obviously as I've got no ettenmoors access. (Or would simply having another data set for a given time period be useful so you can compare the state of people at specific times it occurs.. if player A rolls back and I've got no rollback in the same period...).

Hopefully the log will record multiple events. I know from experience that it can happen several times in a night in the moors and it would be a pain to lose data because someone does not want to keep everyone waiting while they get the log file backed up.

Anyway glad to see this is being being addressed since it has been a frustrating problem for awhile now.

Anyone who has experienced the rollback issue is what we're targeting.

Sapience answered part of this... we are looking for people who have experienced this, and not strictly in PvMP. As for character names, this is so we can track from our side and compare your data to ours when we receive it back from you. But, also as Sapience stated, this is not on Bullroarer, but on the live servers.

Thank you for the feedback; we are working with our friends on the EU side as well - please keep an eye on their forums for information related to this same investigation.

Specific instructions will be given to our participants, but basically once you experience the issue you will find the file we're looking for in your folder.

honestly, i'd be happy if every captain in the entire game did this. it seems to happen to captains the most, and it'd be awesome for this to be finally fixed.

just in case you didn't know Turbine, these rollbacks tend to happen around the lag lines/zone changes in the moors.

i got rolled back on my captain just running around in the 21st through a zone change while pressing make haste.

That would be me sapience I have been the unfortunate recipient of over 100 rollbacks. I will be private messaging the operator as instructed. I have lost over 120,000 renown, hundreds of Killing blows and a large number of kills.

Glad to see that something is being done to help resolve this issue. I hope to help test this out, since as most captains, I have experienced a large amount of rollbacks myself, losing probably somewhere around 100k myself (I stopped keeping track after 60k lol). I'm not one that is going to leave for RIFT or anything, but would be nice to get PvP back in Lotro to where it was (lag/rollback wise) and get some that have taken a leave from it due to this issue back out there as well.

I will participate since each time I lead half of my raids always get's rolled back. I will make sure that other players do so in order to fix this issue as fast as we can please, because is killing most of the fighting out here on E. If needed I can lead a particular day like saturday and I dont know cordinate with Vyxx or yicky or other leaders to do a stress test of getting lot of players into server lines and you can analize it. I am sure you will get some good data out of it.

Just a question for the(a) turbine rep.

I 've never really had any roll backs, i think i might have had one once. However i often get combat locked, that is my skills look like they are queuing but they get stuck. I have noticed that this happens most often if you target/try to attack someone who has received a rollback though it can happen in general around serverlines just like the rollbacks. Would it be beneficial for someone like me to log that information for you by participating in this issue testing?

Cheers. Await your reply to see if i will put my details forward.

    Likewise After.

I don't experience rollbacks often, maybe 2-3 times since i came back however i skill lock regularly. Would also like to know if it'd be good for me to participate and log information.

    Thanks for the information.
Sorry to confuse anyone by mentioning BullRoarer, I realize this is for the Live servers. I look forward to helping any way I can.

    Okay, guys!

I've got a full group at this time for testing. I'm still sending out confirmation messages, so check your PMs for one from me today. If you get one, you're in!

The email is expected to go out this afternoon, so you should have everything you need to get us some good data over the weekend. Just play as you normally would, though - attempting to do your own "stress test" may skew the results that we're looking for. We need to see what happens when you just do what you usually would.

However, I will make sure the team hears your suggestions.

    Thanks, everyone!

At this time, we want to focus on the specific rollback issue. But if we need to expand that, I'll make sure and let you know.
