If you kill a Nazgul, do you get to keep its Ring?

I think this is a very important loot drop question...especially if there are any encounters in the future of Lotro where we get to fight any of the Nine! (except for the Witch King of Angmar, of course)

On a lesser but related note...shouldn't any kind of robed creature ("neither living nor dead") such as the Cargul also be bound to the will of Sauron by some sort of ring? We should be able to pick up those rings, too, right?

    We never kill them.

I believe the Turbine lore for Carguls do Not include any ring/item of power in their "creation"; they become Carguls from being wounded by a Nazgul blade (similar to what Could have happened to Frodo)

Right. We can 'defeat' them several times, a la the Waters of the Bruinen, but that's more of an inconvenience than anything. They just get new robes from Sauron and get back into business.

On that note, I am incredibly disappointed there are no Hobbit-sized Cargul.

I've always been under the impression that the rings (or at least their power) of the Nazgul and their souls had essentially merged, or were in the possession of Sauron.

perhaps because due to size, what would have been a wounding for Man, became lethal to hobbits?

    Just guessing...

We already fight Nazgul in game. Check out Epic vol 1 bk 5 for instance.

We cannot however fully destroy them, only temporarily defeat them. That's unlikely to ever change, since it's locked in by the lore.

And yes, their Rings are no longer with them in any sense. Sauron holds onto those. The wraiths don't need and couldn't use the Rings anymore anyhow as such, since their transformations are complete.

And JeanCarlo's explanation is correct. Though the Nazgul have Rings of Power, most of Sauron's servants do not. Carguls for instance are made by corrupted wounds from sorcerous (morgul) blades. As Amdir went, so too Frodo nearly did.

There shouldn't be any expectation that players will ever at any point possess Rings of Power. That's almost certainly never going to happen. Most of epic Vol 1 is about how a single (very minor) Ring of Power forged by some little-known elf maid nearly destroyed all of Eriador. We're not going to get our hands on those.

True, but would they be able to bring their rings along with them as they return to Mordor, or would the rings remain with the robes (hypothetical question off course, as I'm pretty sure that Sauron have them now)?

Frodo was actually way underway to becoming a Cargûl (though that particular name was a Turbine-invention) in the books, after he was wounded (EDIT: Which I just now noticed you yourself ninja-ed me on, doh). Gandalf says that Frodo would have turned into a wraith. This was probably the inspiration for the Cargûl, as the exact same thing happens to Amdir, and we get to see it first-hand. I think the shortage of hobbit-sized Cargûl is mostly due to few of them getting in the kind of situation that gets you stabbed by a Nazgûl (they must've been quite busy stabbing to gather as many Cargûl as we see in-game, though).

Hobbit nazgul? =) Check once again who are given the nine rings. And on topic - put a ring on and become enslaved forever? This would be a bit worse than the bree cheese title, no?

They won't allow looted Rings of Power... yet.

As soon as they do, I'll wait until enough people have their shiny rings. Then I'm headed to the Expert Workbench in the Crack of Doom to do a bit of jewelry-making. Then I'll have my own private army of suckers, er, 'kings of men' to control! Muahahahah...

Absolutely. If you kill Sauron, you get all of his stuff. That includes, but is not limited to, Nine Rings for Mortal Men, plus whichever of the Seven Rings for Dwarf Lords are still around. You also get the Keys to Barad-dur. And you get to keep Sauron's commemorative coffee mug that says, "World's Best Dark Lord". And a motivational poster with a kitten hanging off a branch. And an earring that gives +7 Fate.

No, you won't. But you get the t-shirt from the very first Ainur singing tour ("Ainulindale - It Starts Here"). Sauron never throws that stuff out. That's gotta be worth something to a collector.

No, but you will get Mordor Medallions that you can barter for the rings of power though.

On the first day of the Age of Man, looting the Dark lord gave to me...

    5 golden rings!

Really, i think I'd loot the home entertainment/projection system and set it up in my home. I'd send out a constant image of a belching dwarf over the top of the mountain, rather than just an eye. If I had the bling on, no one could see me anyway--I'd rather project my belching image where everyone could see it.

But you'll have to spend *months* grinding those Medallions out because the instance will be locked to be playable only twice a week, you'll only get two or three Medallions per trip through and it takes about 200 or so Medallions per Ring of Power. But there will be a deed that gives you the title, "I Won LotRO!", 5 TP and the One Ring (As a housing deco.) if you get all nine rings.

Would you really want to keep the ring. I can only think of a few possible outcomes, but none of them seem pleasant.

    1. You hang on to the ring until you become a Nazgul yourself.

    2. You become a strange gangly creature who talks to himself (maybe this only happens with the one ring but it doesn't seem to far fetched to me).

    3. Sauron is not very happy with you. He wants his ring back. Good Luck.

Why would there be hobbit sized cargul... why would nazgul stab a hobbit, hobbits are not suppose to be all over the place to where they would be that common outside of Bree/Shire. On top of that, they would not pose a threat to the nazgul to a point to where it would be worth it to stab them with a morgul blade... Than and short cargul would just look stupid.

On the loot thing: I fought Sauron and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt.

It would be, were it not for Sauron's pit-stains.
