RoI is the first LOTRO expansion in which players incorrect assumptions were allowed to linger in order to boost sales.
A large number of players assumed that ROI would only be available for (pre)order via Turbine Points. You chose to put up a sale for Turbine Points just prior to announcing the preorders will only be available for cash.
A significant number of people purchasing the preorder assumed that ROI would be released with several group instances, as is the norm for MMO expansions.
I'm sure there are players that now believe that the instance cluster that will be free to them when they are released, assuming they purchase ROI.
I'm also sure there are some players that assume they'll be able to buy ROI with Turbine Points the day the game releases, if not immediately at midnight.
I do not believe that Turbine has outright lied and I think that topic has been beaten to death. But I do think that Turbine has chosen the unsavory path of omitting vital information and purposely allowing their player base to make false assumptions. This doesn't need to continue. There is no reason to lose customers because you're afraid they won't buy your product if you correct their misconceptions.
Transparency and honesty is the way to my dollars. I realize that it is a tough market and that it is soon to get even tougher. But I love the IP and I want to love the developer that has chosen to develop in it.
Let your customers know what they are buying. It's the least you can do.
PS: I do believe this deserves it's own thread because it is simply about transparency and honesty and not about the other topics going about.
