New registrations blocked?

I was going to get some of my friends to play today, and they all tell me the account registration is closed. Or they're not eligible for creating a new account. Is this a bug, or did they close down registration without sending out a news post first? (Or perhaps I've missed it, who knows?)

myAccount was down temporarily earlier today. Have your friends try again and they should be able to sign up for new accounts now.

That's the thing, they tried it five minutes before I posted this message just to be sure.. Which is what made me decide to try a forum post. So unless you've flipped the switch in the past five to ten minutes it's not functioning as it should here in Europe. :]

EDIT: After attempting to create a bogus account, I've confirmed it works again. My apologies for the above accusation, I believe I have a few friends to skin, I have to work on my tailoring anyhow so that's convenient.

I don't suppose your friends did something really silly, like try to create a CM account?
