I was trying the Edit Signature option, but I realized it allows only a few characters (200, more or less). What are the specific limits we have for our signatures on this new forum?

It should allow a total 500 characters and a total of 4 lines with 1 image allowed. If that bloats and people have more words in their sigs than in their posts, it will be reduced.

On a related note, if you do link an image in your sigs please be thoughtful of other people and their possibly much slower connection speeds (or data caps in other countries).

Images should be no larger than 350 Wide x 125 High and try to keep the file size as small as possible.

I can say with certainty that the character cap is well over 500, and it permits more than 4 lines of text. Seen a few with that already.

Also, does the single image allowance, if not used, grant the user a 5th line of text, or it a cap regardless of image use?

Are you sure that's not some wierd quirk of your Player Council usergroup? =)

I know I originally was aiming for 5 lines and it wouldn't let me no matter what I tried..

There might be some BBCode style trickery people are using to get to a 5th line.

I could not get over 500 characters either, so that seems to be working.

As for image size, my 'image' is 2.82 kilobytes and 8 by 9 pixels... I hope that is small enough *big grin*

That functionality was removed with the forum revamp. You can make your own image (within the guidelines) but no data is coming from LOTRO any more.

that stinks since I am sooo technologically impaired.

I did see that others were offering to create personal sigs...guess I'll start looking for a computer guy! Thanks!

This is an artifact.

Historically sigs were allowed much more than they are currently... those limits were reduced several times in the past .

However, if you had a sig which exceeded the new limits, it was allowed to remain -- but you could NOT modify it.

I have two lifetime accounts and I rarely ever use the other account -- it still has an 8 line sig, although only about 250 chars. (Or did... I haven't verified it with the new forums.)
