Hi,
I was wondering if pre-patching will be available before the expansion goes live?
And also does anyone know the size of the files to be added to the existing client?
Thanks

There and back again since April 2008.
No, you won't be able to pre-patch.
And as for filesize, anything up to a couple of GB max. Expansions are always a big patch.

I am getting small patches each time I log in this week, but no, nothing big will come in the next few days.
On Monday, if things go the way they historically do, Sapience will post in the forums when the login server is available, unless one of us who sits on launch day and clicks login, beats him. You will get patches and then wait until the real servers become available.
Then the servers will go down for an emergency patch, we will have to wait for a message that they are back up and then repatch and log back in.
IF all goes well, then Thursday, we will get message in the launcher and forums that we are getting 2-6 hours downtime and another emergency patch to fix broken stuff in the new content.
THEN the following Monday, we will get yet another patch and hopefully then the game will be stable for a week or two.
Sigh.. that sounds SOOO pessimistic. Sadly, its the way most releases have gone in this game and in most MMOs.

There is the perpetual check and occasional download of splash screens in 3 languages. Looks like some kind of patching, especially if it goes by too fast to really see it.
Real patches will take a while running forward iterations. Those are slow enough to be readable and obvious.

Ah yeah, that's what I thought. It always goes through that process, right? I don't think it's actually downloading. I doubt the splash screens change so frequently and I always see those messages. It's probably checking to verify they exist and if someone one gets deleted it would just replace it or whatever.

It's been my experience, that when you have been logging in and playing, quite a bit of the download is being downloaded in the background. Scenery, etc., things that are not in need of last minute updates.
Then on the 18th, these will be unpacked and installed, then any remaining files that are needed will be downloaded and installed.
That's about right.
Historically speaking this is false. Then the servers will go down for an emergency patch, we will have to wait for a message that they are back up and then repatch and log back in.
Nope, but we do always plan a maintenance window for a week of a major deployment just in case we find something we consider critical. As with most things, you can plan until you're blue, but someone always manages to find something you missed. Most of the time we don't need these extra windows, but once in a while we do.IF all goes well, then Thursday, we will get message in the launcher and forums that we are getting 2-6 hours downtime and another emergency patch to fix broken stuff in the new content.

It does sound pessimistic as it's really not even vaguely representative of past performance from LOTRO or most MMOs when it comes to game updates.
Is someone hear good with timezones? When exactly tomorrow will the patching be able for download? I live in Norway and suck at GMT/EST and all that shizz![]()
Truth and Justice
We did not announce a time that patching will begin. The servers come down at 6AM Eastern time, which is GMT -5. That means 11AM GMT (or UTC if you prefer). I'm guessing Norway is CET, which means you're 6 hours ahead of Eastern time and 1 ahead of GMT. So you'd be looking for the servers to come down around noon your local time.

If you leave your launcher open, it should patch automatically.

Woop Monday is here!
Just wondering if there was a UK time that we can start playing HD? So far i heard the downtime is 11am GMT, 6am EST. I don't know if that's correct or not... But when will we go live?
[I should read before posting... it says above.]

Is it possible to use a working installation of Beta to considerably speed up the patching process given most content should be relatively similar to what's already there? if so, what files should you replace to have the Beta client patch and connect to Live servers instead of Bullroarer? This would allow most people who have been in Beta to cut patching times down considerably, saving you guys bandwidth and us time.
