No standard ground targetting in 12.1?

Just looked at the official patch notes and it seems this has been tossed out from the final version. Has it been scrapped down completely, or is it just pushed back?

Pushed back due to some technical issues which popped up last minute.

Did I just see a blue name as first reply? What is this utter madness called "Captain Forums"?

    Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, while we're on the banner topic -- is there a particular reason why ground targeting is gated behind spending trait points? It doesn't sound like a horrible idea to simply change banners to ground-target by default.

It was ground-targeted by default in beta, but the general feedback leaned a bit against it due to it being slower to place/easy to misplace. Having it behind a trait means it's easy enough to choose for each player how they prefer it.

I vastly prefer how the targeted banner functions on live. Having to click the skill twice and place it for ground targeting has always felt very slow and clunky to me, both in Helm's Deep beta and in other games.

This pretty much sums it up. I'd prefer players be able to have the option to choose which usage method they prefer.

I may be misreading the skill, but even though all standards are targetted, do they really have targetted effects? I thought their effects were the combinations of AoE Light damage, AoE fellowship damage boost, and AoE healing. Or is the light damage target only?

edit: I just double-checked the standards, and all their effects seem to be area of effect (nearby allies, nearby monsters). Can we please have them be untargetted by default? It seems that the only consequence of banners needing a target is clunky gameplay and major annoyance.

edit2: On second thought, even though it says nearby enemies, it only works on the enemy it targets. Any chance we can get the light damage to be AoE? This will solve a lot of issues with the clunkiness of the skill.

Thank you. I really dislike ground targeting on my RK. I need to go in and figure out what I will loose to disable it. You would think it would be no duh, click button choose empty spot, click again, but about 25% of the time the game reads something as being in that spot (usually an enemy who moves into the spot as I click) and not only do I not get my rock (because I select the item/mob) but waste precious seconds on placing it again and then tabbing through the mobs to find my original target.

I seem to have missed this post. So it seems that the only reason it has to have a target is because it deals direct light damage to a single enemy in range. But is secondary targetting the only solution?

Any chance we can have the Standard do AoE light damage and be non-targettable by default instead?

Or perhaps if the direct damage is a sticking point, it can deal damage to marked opponents within 7 meters?

I really think the targetting aspect of the banner (whether initial or secondary) is a considerable weak spot for the skill. You can't really pull with it, you can't set up your battlefield strategically, and as pointed out (in the case of secondary targetting), aiming at a moving target may be an issue.

While we're talking about banners and options can I just restate that I would like the option not to use a pet but to use ground targeted banners of Hope, Victory or War as per pre 12.0. Its been previously stated that all the issues between banners and pets of various shapes and sizes have been resolved so there should be no problem in allowing such an option.
