Unable to post anywhere but here

Hi,

I'm not a new player nor have I ever tried to post in forums until today with a couple of suggestions, but I am unable to post there. Reading thru forum guidelines etc all I've found is something about being registered and I should be able to post. If there is something I've missed please point me in the direction of it or the reason I am unable to post anywhere but here.

There was a rash of spambots bogging down the forums.
Restrictions were put into place to combat this.
Details about the restrictions have been vague at best.

As a new arrival on the forums you are restricted to a limited subset of the forums. You will have to wait the required number of days to get access to the remaining forums.

My recommendation is that you post your question on a forum you do have access to like this one.

Yula, this was very helpful for me, as I knew I was limited on my posting permissions, but I didn't know for how long. Now I know it's just temporary. Thank you!

I am having the same problem. I was trying to reply to a post regarding the Login hanging on pre-reqs, but found I do not have permissions and have been unable to determine why.

You must be remembering the old forums where you could stay logged in for weeks. In this new forum your login lasts only 16 hours. So you need to log in every day if you want to post or see any personalized information. It doesn't matter how long you have "been a member".

I neglected to log in for a few days and was still allowed posting finally. Now that I understand why it seems more of a good solution to do what they are doing. Some patience is warranted, but it's a good community.

Those spammers really were dreadful by the way. Over seventy posts from one of the three I saw and I think there were more.

Same problem. Have been a LOTRO player for ages, am even VIP atm, but I cannot go to the suggestions topic to suggest a few things cause I am not active on the forums while I am logged in :P

This is not the reason. The Join Date on your post is March 2014, which would indicate that you recently created a forum account. We've had a terrible time with spam posts on these forums so Turbine has locked it down. You will need to wait some unspecified amount of time before you will become authorized to post in places other than here. The length of time you've been playing LotRO isn't relevant.

I just want to clear something up. This is nothing new.

When we were subscription only, you had to have an active, valid, game account to use the forums at all.

When we went F2P, we knew there were going to be those who would create multiple acocunts, make new accounts when they got existing ones banned, etc. So we put in a system that restricted posting to the new player area for X period of time. Unfortunately when the new version of the forums came online this system broke. An increase in sock puppets made it clear something wasn't working as intended, but then the blast of spammers, with brand new accounts posting everywhere told us that the delay system had gone kablewy. So, I took a look, saw how to put it back in place, and now it' is. The length of time was changed and it now applies to everyone.

Oh, and for the record, yes we did have people in the past who would spend the money to get an account so they could spam or circumvent a forum only ban. Just lats night we had an account with a creation date of 2009 spam the forums with over 100 posts and then come back on two more old accounts (pre 2013) to do the same. So while it's not common, it does happen.

I do realize that. But my forum account is connected to my gaming account, which is several years old. I am not the type to post often, but then I wanted to make a few suggestions that could benefit the game and I decided to pull my weight and contribute. It just stinks I have to sit around on the forum now, waiting to do so. Not knowing how long.

How exactly is forum account creation operating? I registered April 15, 2011 and my forum join date also says April 15, 2011, but I barely even knew these forums existed and didn't start becoming active until the RoR beta. The furthest back the forum search will go for my posts is one I made on June 5, 2012, in regards to the RoR expansion bundles. (Sidebar: apparently I've been a wall-of-text poster since my time here began. xD) Is that really my very first post or does the search engine just not go any further back? And regardless of that, it really does seem like my forum account was automatically opened the moment I started playing this game. Is there a box that gets checked saying to create a forum account, or something similar?

That said, I get the feeling that Turbine is trying to get expansions out fast to keep interest and income. I honestly would be happy to have RoR be pushed back a whole year, if you could fix known issues. I'm in no hurry to reach Mordor. Really and truly. Obviously, RoR is coming Sept 5th unless the sky falls down. But if the next year was devoted to fixing known problems, I'd be very, very satisfied.

As for the forum account, I know back when I created my account, forums and game were separate logins with different usernames and passwords. I think I was prompted for a forum username when I filled out info for the game account, but I'm bit certain.

Now that the two are under the same username/password, I would not be surprised if both are timestamped at the same moment. Look at the first post in the thread. the person is stamped 2012, but still has the restrictions now, presumably because he or she had not logged in on the forum until recently.

I'd be curious about when Sylvan10 created the game account. If it was before forum/game accounts merged, there may have been no original timestamp and that resulted in a new one at first forum login.

My best guess, based on your forum creation date, is that you made your game account and probably never logged into the forums. When you did recently it created your forum account. Thus why your account is showing as March 2014.

I'm having the exact same problem. Guess I will have to wait for the time to elapse so I can post on other forums.

I don't like that even those of us that have been here for years still have to wait a preset amount of days to post on forums we've previously posted before the revamp

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's a combination of several things. Not just age of account.
