I've been playing/registered since Saturday and I have VIP statues but why can't I post in other threads? It's bloody fustrating cause I normally love being active on forums and yet I not allowed...

There was a large spam attack in the forums a few months ago, a lot of it inappropriate. So the devs put measures in place that only allow ppl who have just created a forum account to only b able to post in the new player forum for a period of time.

Is it? If I am a professional spammer, it might be well worth $15 to me to become VIP for one month so I can spam these forums, if I have discovered that these forums get me the clicks and the suckers I'm looking for to rip off.

If you are a real player and you like the game enough to become VIP, you are likely to stick around long enough for your account to meet the requirements for unlimited access. If you're a spammer, time is money and you'll move along to some other less vigilant group of potential suckers.

You can post any questions here. If it is something that you really NEED to post to a server forum or some other blocked spot, I'm sure someone here will volunteer to help you.

Seconded. While the same thing is driving me crazy on the DDO forums off and on with my OWN account, helping other users with just this kind of problem is something the community here rocks at. Give it a shot, let us prove it.

Well I guess I didn't really take it from a "professional spammer" point of view cause for me it seems a whole waste of money. I guess I am just a little anxious and should be more patient

The OP has not been active since March 23. Could have bought one month of VIP and then quit the game when he lost interest and/or it expired.

The Newbie forum title is based on post count alone and is not related to the forum anti-spammer restrictions.

It has nothing to do with your Turbine account it has to do with when you made this forum account. if you have been playing since 2011 is this really your first post or just the first post under this forum name? If the later what was your previous forum name? try that and I am sure you will have access to everything.

This is correct, your forum account is treated separately from your game account for posting privilege purposes. You can be VIP for 4+ years, but if you have never utilized a forum account since this version of the forum went live in 2013, you're not going to have posting privileges in other threads.

Just thought I'd mention, age of forum account by itself is also of no importance. I created this forum account shortly after I started playing 3 years ago, but found little reason to post back then. When I started playing again 3 months ago & wanted to post to the main forum, I was still kicked back to here, since I had no recent posting activity.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but how long exactly does it take to be able to post in other forums? I also am an old member from back in the days and I had around 1000 posts on the old forums. I'd love to get back into the community here.

Was the spam attack so bad that the posting rules shouldn't be loosened a little bit? I mean if numbers are dropping then perhaps making it easier to join the community at large even if that does make a spam attack a little easier should be considered.

Yeah, it's frustrating and it makes a bad experience for everyone who gets stuck. You don't post because you can't post, and because you can't post you don't get enough of a posting history to get your posting privileges activated. It's a bad loop.

But the problem is still going on. Just this past week the spammers changed tactics and are posting threads that aren't so glaringly obviously to a casual glance by a human. It's a kind of arms race thing. I wish I understood what they were getting out of this.

Perhaps the random-spam-killer time is bigger than it should be, I started a thread today not only to contribute but also because I thought it may accelerate the restriction, but I guess not and will search in the store for a tome to buy and speed up the restriction ;)

The posting restrictions are driving players away from LOTRO!

I was chatting to someone on another game forum yesterday and she mentioned that she tried LOTRO but gave up after a week. It seems she was having technical problems and tried posting here for help, but was denied access to the regular technical help forums where she tried to post on an existing thread and was confined to the new player forum and never got a single answer to her cries for help. She concluded that if Turbine couldn't be bothered to help her or let her ask for help as others were doing then LOTRO didn't need her or her money. She quit and went to play a certain other game instead. And since she did, the couple of her friends who were trying it with her quit and went with her!

They do, in that those with a post count of 0 tend to be restricted.
