Yes, it is.
It can be. You just have to keep in mind that in some situations it's a bit "squishy".
Good luck!
It's also one of the easiest since your pet can do the fighting for you.

In my opinion it is a good solo class. You can get powerful companions of different flavors which will help to keep the bad guys away from you. You also have means of crowd control which you can use to stun, daze or root. Survivability is good as LM. Of course you shouldn't run straight into a group of opponents and hope that you survive that. You only have light armor after all. Let your companion do the tanking and pick opponents one by one.
My Lore Master is my favorite out of six classes to play solo and therefore has leveled way above the others. He has great long distance skills for stunning enemies, so he can pick off two or three of them one by one. And he can send in his pet ahead of him or have his pet fight one, whilst he fights the other. The only problem per say with the Lore Master is he gets killed pretty easily in melee combat, if his pet gets killed, so you have to keep an eye on how close him and his pet are close to dying. The LM has lots of skills to rejuvenate his pet during battle.
I have to admit, I do let that happen more often than I should. That's having the pet fight, whilst the LM stands there casually and hurls fireballs and lightning etc.

I've taken three classes to 100: Loremaster, Hunter, and Guardian.
I think maybe hunter is easiest for solo play - quick kills, ability to port all over the world. Guard would be second for me. Puts the game on easy mode for quests. And putting bleeds on everything is neat. Loremaster is okay too but can die a lot easier without good knowledge of all the ways to stay out of combat.
Setting your pet on auto attack is a great way to grind some exp and loot. At least on the lower levels, just wander through the countryside and let it kill things as you go.
Super Noob here but if you want to run it solo you might want run it on the Pet Friendly line, to make sure your pet is up for the tussle
I would guess the Crowd Control line isn't very helpful on a solo run
