Rage post: This game isn't worth the money I invest due to crashes and graveyard ress

So, I returned (this time as a vip) and...

The game still crashes! It crashes regardless of the computer I use. It crashes on my new computer. It crashes on my old computer. It crashes on my mid-specification machine.

So I bought VIP just to enjoy the new content. Far Anorien is hard to navigate. It has hills and forests. It has a lot of riding and sneaking in the forest.

And every single time it crashes, if I'm mid-combat, I am dead. Dead, jim! And there's one single ####ing graveyard close to Amon Din. So it's walk back again, and again, and again... and it crashes again, and I'm back to the graveyard!

Seriously, Turbine. The game is completely unplayable in this ####ing state!

Either fix the damn crashes, or terminate the game after the license expires in 2017. It will be better gone, rather than continue in this miserable state.

I offer my service for free as an alpha tester. Seriously, the current state of the game is ALPHA. I'm ready to send you each damn info I get, just so your programmers could move your arses and fix the client.

I'm currently running the Dol Amorth dailies. I have not experienced the crash to desktop (thankfully), but lag/rubberbanding is noticeable, as is the delay between activating and firing off a skill. The delay has not caused my characters to die (yet), but it is damned frustrating.

    My crashy diary continues.

So I decided to go to Mithrandir in Minas Tirith to catch up with the legendary quest. Crash on Minas Tirith entrance, so it doesn't count. I braced myself - lowered my graphics settings everywhere, lowered the speed of game engine in troubleshoot, okay.

I'll get a horse travel to upper circle? Nah, old horses that go there are gone. There's a stable master. I'm vip? It doesn't count, I haven't unlocked these travel locations yet. So going on foot.

Just before climbing the first stairway I got crash... But I said, I braced myself for this and I reloaded. I climbed some more stairways. I crashed just before entering the uppermost circle.

I reloaded. At long last I was close to Mithrandir. I got the quest and decided to screenshot the quest text for my questing diary.

As soon as I hit the button for screenshot, it crashed.

This has never happened to me in any other game.

I play World of Warcraft: Legion beta. Never crashed even a single time.

But this? LOTRO is worse than alpha. Looks like very early development phase.

    Angry

Jesus Christ, the way back from Minas Tirith is quite the experience!

Swift travel back to first gate - Crash.

Entering to City Stables, where the Epic quest leads - Crash.

I wonder if there are developers and testers at Turbine at all...

    What causes the crash?

    Memory issues/leak?

To much of a resources hog on the server at that time?

Server lagging and booting you out of the game?

    --Memory issues/leak?

    This one.

Almost always client related, rarely server related. The client IMO is a huge memory hog. And it is especially visible when you go to areas like Minas Tirith

who knows? turbine doesnt seem to know, and it doesnt seem to be a priority to find out, let alone to fix it. just expect more "we are working on it" posts.
dont worry the dev's are working on a fix that fixes the fix that fixed the fix that was fixing the fix....

It's not a priority? From my point of view (and it includes three different computers with separate downloads, separate settings) the current status of LOTRO is in a perpetual alpha.

There are almost no crashes in low level areas - Shire, Bree, etc... The game is unstable in new areas and in certain places (like Minas Tirith) is almost unplayable.

Give the exact version of Windows that you run.

    i.e.

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
    Windows 7 Home 32-bit
    Windows 7 Home 64-bit
    Windows 8.1 Professional 32-bit
    Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit
    Windows 10 Home 32-bit
    Windows 10 Home 64-bit
    Windows 10 Professional 32-bit
    Windows 10 Professional 64-bit

If you are running a 32-bit version of the OS you WILL have problems if you leave process settings at default (i.e. max 2gig process size) There is a workaround for this.

Hold that thought, with the new "frill" they plan to add with Update 18.2 (because, y'know...priorities), the low level areas may end up the same.
As, I posted in another thread, I got on my war-steed today and rubber-banded all the way to Beacon Hills--a location my toon hadn't even discovered yet. Good stuff.

But here's the rub, Svet...Turbine has just now decided to admit there is a problem. The first couple weeks back when Update 17 went live, the executive producer was all "the majority of problems have been fixed" and Mr. Frelorn was boasting how they receive little in the form of bug tickets. And then the following week (after a weekend full of customer bug reports), the #### hit the fan and the executive producer was pulling people off Update 18 development to try and sort out the mess.

The real issue here is, if they actually played the game, they wouldn't depend so much on the player base to do THEIR job. In no other MMO I've played has there been so much reliance on the customer to report bugs and test their product. It's got to the point now, where BETA is the new ALPHA and live is the new BETA. If you want further proof that they don't play the game, look at the recent attempts to update some of the classes (Burglar and Guardian for example).

Speak with your wallet my friend and stick to your guns.

Windows 8.1 Professional 32-bit However, on my other desktop computer (64-bit Windows 8) it crashes randomly too.

    OK Simple solution.

Take your mouse pointer to the lower left hand corner of your screen. RIGHT click in that corner and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.

In the command prompt type the following command:
    Code:
bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072 (press enter)
Now reboot your system and test for crashes.

If you have any problems with your display driver or any weird and strange funkyness after you'd set that and rebooted, then you can set things back to default with this command:

    Code:
    bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2048
My original thread on this was posted 5 years ago now if you want to check it out:

Thread: Workaround for Client Crash to Desktop in 32-bit Windows

There are a couple of reasons 64-bit systems will have LOTRO crash on them:

    1) You are using the insta-travel horses from Minas Tirith and Fields of Pelennor. These are known bugs and crashes will happen to EVERYONE.
    2) You may be running in DirectX10 or DirectX11 mode with all the bells and whistles turned on. This will be an extremely laggy experience and will eventually reach the 32-bit process size limit on a 64-bit OS. It takes a while but it can get there. If the LOTRO client is compiled with LARGEADDRESSAWARE the limit is 4GB.

Yea, the 32 bit computer would be your problem. I do have random crashes (especially after hunter ports and swift horse ports) in Minas Tirith and Old Anorien very frequently, but not as frequently as you. The issue is that the area is a complete and utter memory hog.

I'd be interested in hearing what the work-around for 32 bit systems was, though.
