    Weapons and Armor Illustrations

The LOTRO Devs have done such an outstanding job creating such beautiful Weapons and Armor, will there be nice illustrations for each item that is listed, instead of just the normal generic icon for that item or item class?
    Thanks!

    Re: Weapons and Armor Illustrations

This is a fantastic idea and something we've talked about internally and would love to see ourselves. However, due to the complexity of doing this in some automated fashion, it's unlikely we'll be able to do this in the short-to-mid term (if at all).

The game and the website use very different technologies and architecture. The integration of data between the two is a very involved problem. Adding in the ability to render the 3d game models/textures in a format that's ready for use on the website is more complex still.

It's not that it's unsolvable, not by any means. However, the amount of effort involved vs. the payoff isn't currently as great as other projects such as maps, character data, etc.

Once we open the lorebook for public editing, I'm sure that the community will upload pictures of some of the more outstanding armor. Over time, this should grow into a pretty rich repository of images from the game.

This can be done not only with items you have; but also items listed as quest rewards, items linked in the chat window, in the secure trade window, and I think items in the inspect window as well.

That only works ingame of course. It is useless while "browsing" in the Lorebook for possible weapon/armour upgrades, which is what is being requested, I believe.

Yes, actually, because there are catagories for the weapons and armor, I thought nice illustrations would enhance the presentation.
Often I'll go to the AH and browse the swords just to see what's there; using the dressing room feature is pretty cool, you can see what the item looks like!
It would be nice however, to have those same illustrations in the Lore Book for all to see and appreciate when they're not in game...like now - lol!!!
For now, I'm just doing screen shots and saving them in a seperate file in Photo Shop.
OBTW, here's a good suggestion for in game - wouldn't it be great to be able to zoom in on the articles in the dressing room?! Then you could get a better look at the fabulous artistry of the various pieces!!!
    Just a thought.

hummm we might be able to use adobes plug in I can't remember what it is off the top of my head to big in obj files and batch them using actions to save for web as png or jpegs. Another thought would be to save them as cad files in your 3d package but depending on the package scripting that may or not be possible, as well as be far more work.
