Summer Event and the Event Schedule

I had a look at the Event Schedule, and found the following:

    Summer Festival 8/20/20@10am 9/7/20@3am
    Farmer's Faire 8/20/20@10am 9/7/20@3am

That makes no sense. Could someone please clarify?

The Devs combined Summer and Farmer's Faire in order to create space for a new Wedding Reception in MT. Or at least that was the original plan.

This is the answer I gave to someone else a couple days ago when asked why this was happening:

Numerous reasons: them working on the temporary server that releases today (Bombadil); them working on the Royal Wedding event(s) which will release soon™ & Rohan Housing + HD for the LS. Also they said they lacked time to work on new rewards for FF. It was put off or cancel.
    But im no dev, so..

They are expecting everyone to do BOTH festivals in just over 2 and a half weeks.

The anniversary festival ended on May 21. I am pretty sure they could have rearranged things to make it work...

The reality is they want people to spend money to buy MCs to reset festival quests.

If people go for this kind of thing then, shame on them I won't blame the company, if they have costumers feeding them money over every little thing.

It basically cuts the festival time for each in half (or doubles the work if you want to look at it that way). All that will happen is players will take less alts to the festivities, or they will only do one festival.

They have plenty of blank space to fit these two in as separate festivals, or at the very least, if they really want to combine them, there is enough of summer left to double the duration. So what it if over runs with the wedding, nobody will care. Festivals often over run with brand new content releases - it's nothing new.
Sometimes, no matter how hard you look, there is no best light.

This was explained in one of the +Cord of the Rings weekly streams.

Due to other priorities (such as re-enabling transfers), other scheduled events (such as the upcoming wedding event and the bombadil server) they decided to push back the summer festival and do it at the same time as the farmers faire. They are two different festivals, just held at the same time. They did not have time to add anything NEW to the summer festival (such as steeds, cosmetics etc.... ) so the decision was between holding it now, and have nothing new (which would probably result in massive amounts of complaints on these forums) or postpone it a month or two so they can put in some new stuff. (which likely would result in MUCH less complaints).

Cordovan did not elaborate further, but there were apparently also some technical reasons why it couldn't happen, as Summer and Farmer's Fest run on "old tech" and the Wedding event is "new tech", so there may be some background coding issues that won't allow the new event to run simultaneously with Summer Fest, but no further details were given, so we can only speculate what this old/new tech means.

Although not confirmed, I also suspect that the Covid-19 crisis and them being forced to work from home slowed down work a little bit, as they probably don't have their fat graphics design machines at home, and limited bandwidth to connect to internal servers etc.

There is a month between Harvestmath and Yuletide. Move Harvestmath closer to Yuletide. Put Farmers Faire just before Harvestmath. Then "old tech" and "new tech" will not collide like matter and anti-matter. How long is the wedding supposed to last?

    Harvestmath Festival 10/8/20@10am 11/2/20@3am
    Yuletide Festival 12/10/20@10am 1/5/21@3am

I don't think the wedding event is going to last more than a typical festival.

Your suggestion seems like a very good one, move summer fest into where farmer's fair is now, move harvestmath out a bit, and put farmer's fair somewhere in between.

The only thing I don't know is whether SSG has something else planned for somewhere around those dates that "cannot yet be announced until closer" as Cordovan would put it.

The other thing they could do is add a week to the dual-festival so people have more time to complete both.

The Wedding event will be a recurring yearly festival, and we intend to continue to support the Summer Festival long-term.

Sorry to bump up a 5 days old thread, but I only just noticed this and wanted to put in my opinion as well:

    Please reconsider, SSG.

I frankly hate it. I hate to have Summer Festival so late, and I certainly hate having it at the same time as the Farmer's Fair which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever from an in-character perspective.

I'm always looking forward to the festivals every year; not for the loot, but actually for the mini-games and the atmosphere, and Summer's one of my favorites. I hate to see it rushed after the end of real-life (Northern Hemisphere) summer.

(And frankly at this point, I don't care about this wedding thing.)

    Agreed.

But apparently at this point the MT Magical Matrimony Mash takes precedent.

    Good luck.

Yes, this will be difficult for those who planned to do one, and then the other.

I've never found anything worth doing in the Farmer's Faire, so doing only Summer is no problem for me. My sympathies who wanted to do both in sequence.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to the wedding....

    Unhappy

Can this FINALLY be the thing that causes them to layer the party areas in the shire? because if we HAVE to have them together it's going to make the fests straight up impossible for some. The lag near the party tree and in the farm fest area is painful when just 1 fest is going on. my comp is going to straight up die trying to do fest quests even if I just do the ones for just one of the fests.

I wait ALL YEAR for Summerfest in June/July and this is the year that people need the distraction the most. frankly this whole thing is an awful thing to do to your loyal fest players. I couldn't care if the wedding is the most revolutionarily awesome fest ever. you guys changed the schedule LESS THAN A WEEK before Summer was supposed to start! I had already written up a checklist to make sure I didn't miss an alt getting her stuff. I've seen people in game asking about what is going on with summerfest. It's freaking weird what you are doing to this.

Summer fest has been at this time for YEARS, move the freaking wedding back instead!

So you're saying that taking two major Festivals, each of which is already infamous for heavy lag, AND happen to be near each other on the map....then deciding to run them both at the SAME TIME might have some nasty side effects in the performance department?

    What could possibly go wrong?

(As to your other points...yes, I also know a LOT of long-time customers who are really bummed about the Summer Festival being pirated by the Summer of Love...we'll just have to see how it goes. The problem is, with so many already on-edge about missing the Summer Festival, the Devs are REALLY going to have to hit-one-out-of-the-park with the Kissy Carnival to make everyone feel better. Then again, MT has its own loooooooong history with lag...so this could be interesting.)

I have to agree that I would much rather they have Summer fest now, even if it means no new items are added. They can always take some of the old mounts that have only been available for mithril coins the last few years and make them something you can acquire with summer tokens. Sure there will be a few people that already have everything, but that is better than waiting for the festival. We definitely don't need two festivals at once. I would be perfectly happy if all the items available were just a clone of what was available last year. I just want to get some festival fishing done!

Well there will still be the same amount of people, it's not like there will be two of everyone, one doing each festival. FF is centered in Bywater and Summer at the party tree, so it should actually disperse the crowd a bit. But i don't like the prospect of trying to grind out everything I want for two festivals in 18 days. There will probably be a Summer encore later though.

I saw a transcript that made another player of your recent stream. Can you confirm that the ETA of the wedding is June 30, 2020? I asked on world on my server but nobody knew that answer. & to be sincere i can't understand your stream messages because I have troubles with hearing.
