    Regarding todays downtime.

I can't find any information about it. Is it a weekly thing? the only topic I could find out was from the march and it said maintenance will last one hour every wednesday. But now its been over 2 hours. Where can i find the latest info about this. I am a new/returning player who joined LOTRO sometime ago after a very long break. So my apologies if this has been asked before.

Joining the OP. This indeed looks like a regular maintainance, but no info on it was provided it seems, didnt find anything on lotro's twitter or reddit. And the forums were down too.

is this downtime the reason why my client tells me "an update error occurred" after its unable to connect to the patch server?

According to its down right now, the status of Lotro is up and running....

Yet I cant even get to the sign in part of the the game, it keeps timing out.

What is UP Standing Stone?? Turn the game off and forget to turn it back on??

I did that too. Checked the facebook page and twitter. Dev tracker also has no information about it. I thought something was wrong with my client because i couldn't connect to servers. The same thing happened last Wednesday when servers were down for almost 2 hours.

SSG has had a long-standing policy of doing its weekly maintenance every Wednesday, providing there is not a game update scheduled for that week which may/may not be occurring on a different day (for example if a game update was scheduled on Tuesday, they wouldn't then proceed to then do their weekly server maintenance/restart on Wednesday).

It still amazes me how after all these years, and, multiple posts from Cord on this subject, people still create a new forum thread every Wednesday to ask why the game is down and why there has been no communication about it. Do you really need a news post every Wednesday saying, "maintenance"?

    command line (cmd.exe)
    Code:
cd /d D:/steam/steamapps/common/lord of the rings online
    lotrolauncher.exe -nosplash -skiprawdownload -disablepatch
Adjust the folder address according to where you have lotro in your system.

    or
    lotrolauncher shortcut options

    or
    steam launch options
    EDIT:
Should not matter which localization you are running, german or either, this should work.

I am guessing todays downtime is just the weekly restart that's taking longer than expected due to last-minute changes that aren't going as they had planned. Odd though that error pages are coming from TURBINE servers. What's up with That? Also, our current account information is STILL available on the old TURBINE servers at myaccount.turbine.com, but on an INSECURE connection. I have reported this on numerous occasions but nobody at LOTRO seems to care. Just like their utter lack of Customer Care, we aren't considered important enough.

Omg I was pulling my hair out trying to fix the "server connection timed out" error... but now it works.
Please tell us these things, SSG!

Oh excuse me Mr. Bullwinkle! I didn't think of that......

The thing is called common courtesy, which it seems nobody thinks is important anymore. They don't always restart of Wednesday. Sometimes its on Tuesdays. yet when you get to the sign in page and all servers are down, with no notice of restart you think its okay to play. Yet you cant.....

    Thanks again Mr. Knowitall!

You and I know that, but there are new or returning players every week. In the time it took you to write your post, an SSG employee could've made a Twitter post, Facebook post, forum post, etc. As you stated, there are weekly questions about this. Doesn't that prove that weekly communication is needed?

Maybe, less sarcasm and more reading? "providing there is not a game update scheduled for that week which may/may not be occurring on a different day (for example if a game update was scheduled on Tuesday, they wouldn't then proceed to then do their weekly server maintenance/restart on Wednesday)."

After years of requests for them to put it on the launcher so people trying to sign in will know what is happening even if they aren't familiar with the forum sticky under announcements SSG has neither done so nor seen fit to explain why they do not do so.

    And to everyone else,

This information isn't hard to find to anyone who bothers to take 5 seconds to look.

NEW and returning members would gladly appreciate a short message alerting them to the downtime. As this happens weekly and they DO announce it "most" of the time, not doing so each time just shows how little respect they have for the membership. We are a second-thought, right after our pocketbooks.

Ummmm it's not exactly common knowledge. I've been playing for nearly 10 years and never knew of the regular Wednesday maintenance (maybe I forgot during an extended hiatus). I understand it being routine, but common knowledge 'aint so common. Maybe some form of message on the client launcher would certainly help with those who aren't in the know.

I think a little issue like this just proves that, with all due respect, LOTRO is way behind the ball with being user friendly, and with engagement and communication. I'm sure the updates may be needed, but you can't blame an unsuspecting user for startinga thread trying to figure out why the servers are down, as it's no obvious anywhere else.
