    @Raninia re: Legacy Server databases

@Raninia , recently in the last couple-few months you did an interview stream with someone (sorry I don't remember who).
Towards the end on the stream, Questions were opened up from the chat and someone asked about current state of the
Legacy Server databases. You had answered at that time that the team had finished up the backend work and that you
would be sitting down with them in the coming week(s) to discuss scheduling to hopefully bring those online sometime in the near future.

I would pose the same question to you now regarding the databases and if any fruitful discussion was had at that time
with your team as to those scheduling discussions. No pressure, just following up so waiting players can be informed.

Too many times I've seen comments from players/posters, towards other players wanting information, that "your characters
are gone foreever" "forget about it", etc. Some reassurance from you that work is in motion would hopefully cut those comments
    down to a minimum.

TIA for your response, and BTW Happy 15th and thanks for a great 15th Anniversary celebration!!!

I don't know about you, but I have never seen anything regarding "your characters are gone forever" here on the forums. In fact, many of us here on the forums have said to the contrary. People have been able to transfer those characters up until the database update in 2019. And transfers were turned off for everyone at the time. It took about 6 months before they reopened them for live servers. Cordovan and Raninia have always been saying the opposite for at least a year with updates being posted to https://forums.lotro.com/forums/show...orld-Transfers and in the Cord of the Ring Streams as mentioned here at this time stamp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cBy2sNwYr8&t=1980s. The interview you mentioned was only if their approach at the problem worked.

Essentially what really happened was what they were trying to do didn't work out the way they planned. But now it is all hands-on-deck when it comes to the lag issue. They will have to come back and try at it again another time. So if you hear people saying that "you will never get your characters back" on the servers - probably from the people who leave after playing for a month - then know that they truly mean "the project is taking so long that you should just play the game with what you have and stop worrying about it."

This was not the stream i saw. Raninia was being interviewed and I do not believe it was Cord. Raninia was actually in the stream. I'm going ot do some more searching later today but i don't think it was with Cord. I looked thru a lot of the Cord streams the other day.

Too much steering of the narrative? So much better if answers are coming straight from the horse's mouth, unhindered.

I know there is supposed to be a new interview with Raninia that has been recorded coming out, but I have not seen it posted yet.

The only other interview I know of is with Bludborn that was posted 2/10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN393T2PQSY&t=3960s. He even states there that they hit some sort of snag.

I think I found it. It was the 1/14 Stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-7lSdEZp2c&t=960s "I am expecting to hear from the team next week about a schedule when those would be available..." He was very optimistic at the time and states about "a schedule" of knowing when the characters will be available, but obviously something went wrong since then.

EU servers not totally off the table given EG7 European presence. There's a surprise.

Slot them in next to this Nirvana of a laggless EU EQ2 server perhaps?

Reopening transfers from the old legacy worlds remains a project we are hoping to do in the future. As folks are well aware this project has proven more challenging to complete than expected, but it remains something we want to do and plan to do. No ETA to announce at this time, though.

Good to hear some at EG7 as well as Daybreak are enjoying playing Lotro too. Laurelin or Evernight I wonder.

Since it has stopped working in I believe around August/September 2019, we are well past 2.5 YEARS on this now.... Don't you think you should give this priority and get this done? I mean, there are lots of things that are on the "something we'd like to do" shelf that just never ever seem to get any progress, like two-factor authentication, and I really would not want this to end up on that shelf either.....

Thank you WeirdJedi, that does seem to be it. It definately sounds familiar now that I listen to it again.
Could have sworn it was more recent than that and I didn't think it was +Cord but I guess time flys and
my memory fails me in my old age
    Thanks for your efforts!

I can't speak to the whole history of the project, but it has been a high priority for us for at least in the time since I've been there. But like any interdisciplinary project while live service is ongoing, as we discover new work, we have to re-evaluate its order relative to other ongoing things.

It's never as simple as "make something a priority and it will get done," because the time of the work is still required. While the length of time this has been unsolved is certainly frustrating, it's always going to be a lower priority than egregious performance issues like we saw around Gundabad, game downtime like we experienced two weeks ago, or an office outage that occurred about a month ago. The previous examples are all things that distracted from work on this project, and there may be future things in the same vein.

Course changing the database software certainly didn't help with making this easier.

I'd have gone with transfer method used never delivered nor could it. Maybe not there yet though. My -2 Gladden refugee with the lone same level clone "friend" with a last played the time the transfer went through a reminder this week.
