Oh SSG - What kind of a mess have you made with the Bail Avarc Quest givers

I've just logged on after the latest update to find a really confusing mess with the Bail Avarc quest givers.

Why has this been changed at all.

Before the update you went round and took all the quests you wanted to fulfil inside the instances. When you had taken them all the rings would disappear from the radar. You could see if there were any left to take by looking to see if there were still any rings showing.

Now you take the quest and not only does the quest giver then still have a ring, it says "Open Instance Finder". You have to run round all the quest qivers a number of times to make sure you have got them all as the rings are still there.

Why don't you just Auto-Grant the collection quests when we get inside the instance like has been done on countless occasions before.

    What a mess!

...there's like 6 NPCs that give quests. How hard is it to keep a mental note of which ones you've visited?

I get your point but this is just an example of 'iffy' programming.

And I say that as one who has spent 30 years programming in I.T.

So that's a solution? LOL Yeah, that's certainly inconvenient, from the grind perspective...

But it might be true many people were confused - I don't want to say too lazy to open instance panel manually, because maybe they were really confused. Why? Because of the new map... Say, if there was only tiny Bail Avarc map and no kickass fortress as stage and center that shows quests objectives in it, OR... no Bail Avarc and no new separate map at all, just put NPCs in a new camp on Angmar map and quest objectives don't show up anywhere on the map. So then people would figure out that, hey, this is just instance cluster, no new landscape, no new public Carn Dum, no new map, no objectives on map, so I gotta run the instances, right!

(Not to mention there would be no confusion for lower level players who may easily get confused when they click that plus button redirecting them to some... other Carn Dum called differently, as if it was some kind of legit accessible space on the Angmar map for them to explore, so this new redirection shouldn't really be there on the Angmar map at all because why needlessly complicate things - one-off story spaces such as different battle stages and this new reimagined space with Bail Avarc don't need redirections on main maps, that's just makes things far more complicated than they already are)

You pick the quest and right after that there is a golden ring identical to compleated quest.
Why ? Who needed this change? Was working perfectly for everyone before the update, now is a$$.

This is really just more of the same old same old. What makes me wonder is how do people list things like this as accomplishments on a resume? Here's the quest pick up system. Here's the reward track UI. Here's the deed log UI updates. Here's the new map system for each new area. This is the test system developed to make sure changes work as intended. Etc.

I am very familiar with working on a low budget and pinching pennies in the workplace but this company seems to be willing to sacrifice minimum quality for just throwing something out there to see what sticks. It is sad to see where the game is heading these days. Maybe do a little less and do it well rather than do a lot and worry about fixing things later?

Given that the instances have several quest givers it really makes no sense at all. At least give us an option to turn off the new instance finder option for those not too lazy to open it manually (set to Ctrl + J for me).

How did this ever get past any testers or QA types? It was perfectly fine beforehand, collect quests, open instance finder, select instance, easy peasy. What possible benefit does the new confused mess offer? It is a lot easier to miss a quest now, and every player knows how to open the instance finder. Sheer madness. I'd love to hear what brain dead reason there is for this debacle.

Completely agree and it's a right pain when you're trying to hand the repeatables in. I can't see any reason for this change or why break the normal way of working, it's bonkers! A complete waste of resources, do something useful like work on the lag or long over due scalable UI. I can only assume the devs that did the LI screen made these changes.

This is not working the way it was intended, so we'll be reverting this change in our next game update. We will also add some guidance text to the NPCs.

It is definitely nice to have Instance Join open from these quests, but the ring spam is certainly not. Thanks for the quick response.

That's great to hear but it begs the question - why was it released in this state? Is there no review/test of changes? It's not a subtle error or intermittent one it's a glaringly obvious one.

Most likely answer is they did not see any problem with that, and it proven to be a bad idea in practice, not that they would detect the issue in review or anything. I get a sense that one of SSG's biggest problems is... not overcomplicating things... not overdoing things... They like their clutter and they like their cool new features/windows whatever that new is. That pop up might have looked to them like it's such a cool feature to guide players but they don't take extra step back to look at the bigger picture and ask questions about simplicity of things. I must say, I'm a little bit worry about what they may do with map revamps, and that somehow we may end up with more convoluted navigation with more things to switch between and even more fancier art-styled maps but even less in line with actual game terrain and less useful for new player orientation in regions 1, 2 ,3,4

Nice to see that SSG are going to revert this in the next update.

We just need them to revert the +25% Mob Morale and +7.5% Mob mitigation change that they put in too and put the game back to a playable state.
