    Middle-earth Feedback: Carn Dûm

Peer into the frightening fortress-city of Carn Dûm, built upon the slopes of the Mountains of Angmar by the Witch-king, who ruled with an iron fist. Though the Witch-king was driven out ages ago by an army of Elves and Men, rumours abound with stories that Carn Dûm stands poised to strike…

First... CD was a good end-game zone back in the day.

Carn Dum fun fights, one comment tho....Where did all the bad guys go? you can run from uru to carn dum in 5 minutes. You can run from the main gate to cd in 25 minutes and not get killed. Too easy now.

Carn Dum and Urugarth are two of my favorite locations in the game. Places like these are what I enjoy most out of challenging MMOs. I'm glad LOTRO has them. Im disappointed there are not more than a half dozen or so other areas at lower levels that are equally challenging as CD and Uru.

They moved down around the corner from Urugarth. Try running to Carn Dum and the goblin/Uruk/warg spawns past the Gothmog at Urugarth will invite you to breakfast as the main dish. I like it the way it is. Spending an hour fighting those mobs at the bridge and down to Urugarth was the pits.

Urugarth and Carn DUm have a pair of event dynamics associated with them now. Each instance has a Gatekeeper stationed near the entrance to each instance. Defeating the Gatekeeper results in the respawns of other mobs being deactivated for a set period of time.

And they are not that easy - they are both nemesis' I believe. No more fighting through parts and doing the green FM and running through others. If they are up you pretty much have to take them down - at least if you want to get to CD.

It's not really that they're not easy to kill- it's just that it takes a while to kill them.

I do have to say, I love the CD and Uru instances. Of course, it's pretty frustrating trying to get the slime time after time after time....but that gives me another reason to go back!

I have fought the gatekeepers. I do not mean to complain as the cd instance is one of the best in the game imo. can run uru with no minstrel tho maybe nasty that place up a bit.

I love Carn Dum, I'm just disappointed that apart from class quest drops there isn't really any reason to go there. The quest rewards are nowhere as good as crafted items you can get 3 levels earlier, and the random light blue drops are so rare it's not worth the trouble of running the instance for 6 hours for nothing. I'm quite sure not even half the current level 50's have finished the zone more than once.

Love Carn Dum, great zone, loads of scares, and fun. Challenging to say the least. The one major thing I think you need to fix is having multiple drops for items such as KEYS. I spent the better part of 3 hours doing some quests, then we decided to go after the GRATED KEY dropper. We made it all the way to the top but he crushed the last bridge but fell off and came after us any way. We killed him and 1 person won the key. All the fighting, and killing -- I think I went from 20 Urak to 100++ after, and I don't have a key to show for it. Very frustrating. I believe it should be a reward for doing any of the quests. Things like the Slime, etc should drop for EACH class that is there that needs it for their quest.

I think this zone is still semi-popular because people need items there for EPIC, otherwise most would be in the RIFT. I still like Carn Dum though, it is a great crawl.

There is a back door that's been in the game since the beginning - when are we going to be able to use it? The insta-death dread statues just north of dun covad. Is this going to be added with book 12? Ever?

    Re: Middle-earth Feedback: Carn Dûm

I think URU should be revamped a bit as well.....i have a group of people and we were able to run 1st to last boss in less than 1 hour, no tricks. just lost of fms and massive DPS. I would like to see a bit more "trickyness", not just "tougher" mobs....the rift is a good example as you actually have to think in there, where as with Urugarth the only thing to watch out for is the horblowers and lighting the statues on fire (if you go the long way)....

don't get me wrong, i LOVE smashing through instances like that....and sometimes you just need something to vent your frustrations on.
