Hmm, I guess it could in theory be done (though not for SoM). I'm having trouble seeing the usefulness of this though - could you elaborate on why this would be something anyone would want?

I'd rather just type /mount or /dismount... Idk, I'm weird. I have enough key binds to remember as is I guess..

If it's that much work obviously not worth it.

Now that I think about it though. If you did it that way you could even make it so you can specify what mount you want right?

Like /mount bree horse /mount blonde bay horse /mount harvest mount etc...

Suggestion - add the capability to the mount panel to prioritize horses (or rank them, or however you like to term it) Then the Mount button can try for the last used, if that fails, it hits the top of the list and cycles down until it either finds a mount that succeeds or falls off the end of the list

    But yeah, not for SoM

Another good change. Everything about this new mount system is sounding great.

In part as a result of your post, a bunch of the monster player skills were made insta-dismounts.

Frelorn's got nothing to do with this though.

That's cool, thanks for the info and the hint that it wasn't too late to implement some changes in the PvP arena to take into the account the new mount mechanics.

I thought Frelorn was the PvP dev, but since it's a 'mount' issue, it's your baby. Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure Frelorn is a community team member who likes to post about Monster Play. I don't think there is a PvP dev, Systems works on it if they decide to.

Wasn't me either - I'm an engineer, I work more on the nuts and bolts things (like my blog post). It was the Systems team, as TheOneRinger correctly deduced.

Would be useful to have a list of who does what on the dev team. Makes the blame game easier to play :P

I must confess, I haven't read all of this thread, it's rather long, so I apologize if this has been mentioned.

One thing I've liked the idea of is having a horse that doesn't disappear when dismounted. There's a loading screen of Gandalf standing beside a stream with his horse, something we can't do. As soon as we dismount, the horse disappears.

Personally, I would have liked to see horses summoned as a pet. It could have a single power, the one that lets you mount up (you could add more later to facilitate combat!). As a bonus, I could rename my horse Bucephalus, and everyone would see it (I wonder how many would get the reference...).

Is your toon named Alexander? If not, he shouldn't be allowed to ride it

    Bad things:
    1. Free goat for nothing is kind of unfair to those who worked for theirs. Everyone who enters Moria now will start with a goat from the outset?

    2. I miss the dismount button.

    1. The goat has less than half the durability of the reputation goat, and we had to pre-order the Adventurer's Pack. With the density of mobs in Moria, it was hardly worth buying the goat anyway.

    2. It's still there, go to key mapping. Mine is set to the forward slash on my numpad.

Propably already answered to but anyway...

As I understand this, the mounts are now as skills. Now, since they're skills, what happens when we want to get rid of a horse? Before you could sell your mount. I don't see that with the new system. Does this mean I'm now stuck with 2 horses and a goat? ..

[I'd like to sell my standard horse to only keep my Galadhrim one (and get a little refund from the big 4G I had to pay for it (standard one)). At 4G a horse, the skill are becoming very expensive! ]

Purchasing a horse works just as if you purchase a class skill from a trainer. You pay the fee and you obtain the skill, in this case, the ability to call forth a mount.

In other words, there'd be really no point to selling back a horse as you do not physically have the horse, only the skill to summon one. As for multiple mounts, again, the loss of a physical item makes it impossible to sell back the mount. The trick of the new mount system, however, is that every mount after your original purchase becomes far cheaper.

I'd personally like to see it done using the "start" menu concept - where "mounts" would be one of the items on the list, and mousing-over it would open up a list of mounts you own. It would be nicer in general if more things made use of this - instead of screen-space hogging UI.

    I agree!

I'd also like to see that type of menu option for all of the places your character can port to rather than having to use up slots on my toolbar or opening up my skills window every time.

Or maybe we could make our own custom "folders" in the start menu and populate them with the items we want similar to how we can populate our quickslot bars now. Maybe give us a few "quickslot" menu folders or something.

I might not be understanding what you are asking for, but I feel like I have this already. With the SoM patch they added a start menu like button with a mount option on it. Click it and a window pops up with all your mounts. Maybe you meant take the window away? I've gone a step further since they made the system buttons customizable and replaced one I don't use with the mount menu. So I click one button that takes up no extra screen space and all my mounts are listed. They also added an auto mount hot-key option so you don't have to have any screen real estate used up at all or windows to open to mount or dismount so long as you want your last used mount. Won't work if you used a horse last and are in moria, so its best to mount a goat for the automount to work all the time.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you are asking for.

It's alright, perhaps I could've been more clear. With SoM we've gotten a sort of "Start" menu in the UI - so called because it mimics the Windows Start Menu. However, in Windows you have the option of making things like "My Documents" or "My Computer" a menu, allowing you to simply mouse over/click the appropriate item, and it will display a list menu instead of opening a new window. For example:

What I'm suggesting is that they add "Mounts" to the LotRO start menu, where mousing over/clicking on it will display a similar menu as to what I've shown above. Complete with each mount's icon and its type.

I understand the ability to add shortcuts to the Mount panel, and that is a step in the right direction, but my suggestion was mainly to avoid having to open up such a large window.

That would be incredibly awesome. It would be a great place to store ports, food, or other skills you only need to use once in a blue moon - or at least that you don't need at a moments notice.
