Thank you very much. I was annoyed enough after spending way too much time trying to find the root of the problem.

During times of high forum traffic such as this downtime, we turn off the module that makes the front page of the forums look like it normally does. This actually helps the servers handle the heavier than normal load better.

Once traffic here on the forums returns to normal, the module will be turned on again and all will be back to normal.

It's the middle of the night and traffic has to be slow now so someone must have forgot to throw the switch because the forums are as ugly as a newborn warg. I hope that it changes back because this is far more difficult to navigate useful information.

Personally, I like the new layout much better. I hope it's permanent! It loads faster, and seems better organized, with less clutter. Much easier to read on an iPhone too.

Don't be so resistant to change! :-)

It is still borked, and there is no reason for it that makes any since.

It looks like Turbine uses the CMP Portal for vBulletin. This is a very resource intensive Mod for the forum. By displaying all the information they normally do on the Front Page they crank the Database queries up through the roof for each user.

It's much easier to use the Forum Default View and let everyone still access the forums rather than try and deal with the tremendous amount of queries from the Portal, that's a pretty good reason to make the change during peak traffic times

Scarsgar, scroll back up the replies a bit. There is someone who uses this view as their default; and they say how they get there.

Heh, it took me awhile to figure out what people were talking about, because that's the view I always see (on purpose). My bookmark to the LOTRO site isn't to lotro.com or to the normal top-level forum view, it's to here: http://forums.lotro.com/forumlist.php . Which is the view that everyone's complaining about in these threads today .
