Halros The Most Amazing Ranger Ever! (POSSIBLY SPOILERS)

Hehehe, I like Halros. Of course, just by having the title "Ranger" this makes him dumber than a sack of Ranger Action Figures (now with realistic uselessness).
People were disturbed by choice in regard to this fellow, so some notes (potential spoilers).




So, we have had thus far:

Does he stay? (in the Shire)
Or...
DOES HE GO!? (away...from the aforementioned Shire)

The choice is simply...impossible.
So I picked both on different characters, and thus far the differences have been astounding(ly minor but still a bit of fun).
1. Forging the false rings.
1(a): (Does he stay) - when you hear the crash and go to fight off the Uruks, a different ranger will be running (and all puffed out) to request your aid.
1(b): (Does he go) - instead of this other ranger, it is none other than Halros: Man of ACTION, who will be puffed out and not helping the others (until the end) against the Uruks and comes whimpering (MANLY whimpering mind you) to you for aid.

2. Nar, he be in trouble!
2(a): (Does he stay) - have not done this yet, my assumption will be a ranger of different name replacing Halros in what is to be described in 2(b) as the GREATEST THING A RANGER HAS DONE....EVER....I am seriously, genuinely not kidding.
2(b): (Does he go) - Nar and those in the Dwarven Library are under attack! You must brave the mountain and rid its peaks of the foes assaulting it. The rangers muster to the cause with you at the forefront!
The heat of battle!
The clash of steel on steel!
No quarter!
But, gasp! Look over yonder! A mighty troll blocks your path on the only bridge to the peak! Its mighty swings continue to knock you back, but you MUST press on should you ever hope to rescue your insane dwarf friend!

When all looks hopeless...as fear grips your heart in the face of this unrelenting foe...out the corner of your eye, you see him.
You see hope
You see salvation
You cannot see...for tears of joy stream down your face in admiration of the paragon of justice before your sight.

You see Halros. Standing far back. Not helping.

And he was the greatest ranger I have ever known...for he did not derp with the herpaderp and derp his way to death by trying to play with the big boys (or medium boys...or even below average lice).

Halros is a winner, and the best kind of winner. He is a 'by default' sort of winner.
His victory will be not participating.

Um ... what quest is this? Who gives it, and where?

I must say my favourite ranger is the one off the road between Bree and the Shire. He at least got hurt getting trampled by Nazgul horses, not kicking his toe on a stupid rock.

I was pretty much fed up with all the Rangers in the Defending-Nar quest. Three damn Rangers tell me to just go ahead and they'll catch up, oh, and mind the troll on the bridge, there's a good lad. I'm fighting a godsdamn troll and they're all taking a break to smoke a ??? and marvel at the view from the peak? Oh but naturally, they all catch up exactly one second after I deal the finishing blow to the troll.
By the way, it must be nice being a doctor in Middle-earth, home to so many NPCs with sprained ankles and bad backs.

Oh goodness! I was wondering why there was a ranger there watching me fight the troll on my mini, but nobody there when I fought it on my burglar. Good catch!

Silly Halros.

Eruanne, this is all from Vol III. In Vol III book 1, you get to decide if Halros stays or goes. In book 3, looks like there is some changes depending on whether you did or did not.

I totally forgot about this, too! Dang! Good catch! And I just finished doing book 3 on the toon who had him stay, so I did not notice anything...

Actually, could you check if, when you're doing the last instance (with the ghosts) to see if Halros is there? I noticed that when I was on my minstrel, the toon who had Halros stay in the Shire, that "Ranger" was killed, along with, well, people who have done it will know. /sniff Can you see that, if you had Halros go, if his name replaces "Ranger" that is slaughtered soon after you start running?

I don't remember what my captain chose, I'll do book 3 on her tomorrow to see if Halros appears at any time.. and I'll keep an eye out on chapter... 10, IIRC. See if Halros appears at any time. And if he does, if he dies xD

No kidding. But stupid NPCs would probably get themselves punted off the bridge and over the edge of the mountain. Which would be hilarious to watch, I'd probably die laughing (and literally die, I'd be too busy laughing to pay attention to the troll...)

Oh, and don't you love them at the top where the Uruks are? You have Corunir, the Ranger who's laying on the ground and looks like he was beaten to half a pulp by the Uruks before we came up, and they just leave him in the middle of the area to be slaughtered and trampled on... gotta love NPCs...

Totally. My jaws hit the floor when Corunir, whom I assumed dead and trampled, suddenly stood up and said, 'oh, I'm fine, 'tis but a scratch.' I laughed so hard.

I sort of wanted all the Rangers from that point onward to ignore him, and have him keep saying, 'I'm fine, by the way. Remember me? I'm doing good after that horrible experience. Remember?'

There's a secret easter egg in that instance, too. I wonder if anyone's found it yet?

Do you mean OTHER than the para-trooper Uruks who land on Candaith and us when we pass by him?
Blast you...need to go back and look carefully. I'd love a hint - but I assume that's asking a touch too much at this stage (promise once we all suffer aneurysms over trying to find it that you'll give us a tiny hint though, please?)

Oh and if it's dialogue, might just have to look again. I think I forgot to fully explore back and forwards at each 'significant event' for them flavourful blue rings above NPC's heads.

You'll be happy to know that Halros lives to not fight another day.
He is the grand high supreme lord champion honourable mastermind of the rangers. He cannot die because he knows what is what (the 'what' is a sharp pointy thing and the 'what it will do' is poke rangers and make them forget how to retain their blood).

It would appear from the instance you were asking about, all but one ranger is without a true name. I believe this means we have only lost 1 importantly named ranger of our rounded up bunch from Book 1.

I would have died if Corunir was making sarcastic remarks throughout the fight. I love NPCs.

Hmmm not sure about the Easter eggs. I found it comical that he "got better" after the battle and I did take notice that he made a good crossing guard, directing me the correct direction on the 1-way path to the top of Nar's Peak.

I rather like this chapter and really loved the session play story. Loved it.

I thought that it didn't matter what you chose for Halros in the Shire, that he went regardless - once of his own volition and the other because the mayor told him to...

As for MoL's Easter Egg - I think it might be Nar dialogue related, but have to go do it again to find out...

I haven't read all the dialogue/blue feathers and have yet to go actively hunting, but I *do* love the dialogue between the two Uruks that you come across before you reach the troll. One complains about being bored and hoping for a fight, the other tells him to be quiet, and then 10 seconds later he complains that he is bored, too. Brilliant.

I really don't know what CREEPS complain about with the troll being broken, our rangers were dropped on the head a couple times while being born
