    Traditional or Non-Traditional Thanksgiving?

A question for those of us celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow - do you celbrate in the (most) traditional way possible or are you more non-traditional in your festivities?

Mine will be a mix. It will be based on some very standard Southern cuisine but there will be no meat in anything.

We celebrate very traditional turkey, sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie. We eat and watch football! Missing our families and wishing we could be with them. Hopefully for Christmas!

Sounds yummy! I was just given a recipe for a green bean casserole that is really good (I had a taste at the firm party) and can't wait to try it myself.

Hey! You wrote down word from word what I was going to write!

As a European, may I ask where/when this tradition started. ie who are you thanking and for what? Just curious.

As a family of Brits living in the USA this is a 'bonus' holiday for us, we're not emotionally involved in it (but very grateful for it!) So the answer to your question is it'll probably be sammiches tomorrow or something equally easy so that I can spend a day resting and relaxing, and then I have a turkey which I'll cook on Friday.

Traditional all the way. Anyone could sit at our table and would not notice anything different except the faces.

It was started by (IIRC) the Christian settlers at the Plymouth colony. They decided to set apart a day to give thanks to God for the fact that they were still alive, and that they had food and were prospering.

Im just gonna be happy to have the kids up from the city. Wouldn't care if we ate hot dogs or lobster as long as they are here.
