Past Release Notes

Where have the past release/patch notes disappeared to? Before the forum overhaul, they could be accessed at will. However, I can't find the page they used to be listed on. They used to be available the same way the Articles were, if I remember correctly. I see the Articles (The Game > Articles) but not the release notes. I wanted to look at the release notes from around the time of F2P launch. I do understand that these notes are all listed in the wiki, but I wanted to confirm a few details.

This bothers me as well that they just removed all the old release notes and developer diaries completely. This is important game information history that should never have been wiped.



You may have some luck finding them through the wayback machine site. It's slow going, but most of the links should work.

Did they actually wipe it all, though? Or just store it away somewhere and forget to share the link? I remember the path to find the Articles page was so miserable that I had to bookmark it (pre-update) because I could never remember how to get to it.

It would be a darn shame to just toss the notes and diaries away. Those are great resources.

I did see those, but I did want to see it in their original (official) format, and while it was not originally on my list of wanna-sees, Melyjely makes a good point about the dev diaries. Currently the oldest dev diary available is from January 2013 and is hidden in the very tail-end of the Articles. :/

Go in to one of those old threads from 2007 to 2012 (anything beyond page two) and see that there isn't any useful information in them. They provide a link to the actual developer diary which no longer works, and then invite player to discuss it.

Those are vectors to what I want, but as Melyjely also discovered, upon clicking the link to view the actual dev diary we get a 404 error saying "You shall not pass!" The big point of those threads was to allow members to discuss the coming content after reading about it in the dev diary (the links to which are all 404).

Most of this content died when Turbine launched the new site side around July, 2013. Anything on the current site had to be imported or created new. All the stuff on the previous web site went away. I vaguely recall that Turbine created a partial old version mirror of some of this information. I do not remember the URL or whether it is still active.

Patch notes were stored in the Lorebook, which no longer exists.
Old developer diaries, especially those which were outdated and no longer accurate as a result of more recent changes, were not carried over. I believe the developer diaries go back to about Rohan or slightly before at this time.

as far as I know, 3rd party websites like lotro-wiki.com are the only location where public patch notes before 2013 exist.

Thanks all! I was afraid that they were just left in the dust with the move. I didn't know that any of it had been connected to the lorebook, though.

My only reservation with wiki is that it's not an official channel. When I go to get a resource, I prefer having a more reliable one. Content on official websites submitted by official personnel always trumps stuff like wiki.

Fair enough, and to be sure the validity of some of the things posted elsewhere is rightly questioned for any number of reasons. Errors in translations, partial quotes, incorrect attributions, etc. (this is why I do make the effort to validate or correct the Live Stream transcript thread when new updates are made to it). There is, somewhere, a repository of the old release notes that we kept. I'll see about finding them and getting them posted somewhere visible. Probably a fairly low priority, but I'll dig around.

I think they are neat to read through as I have played since June/July 2007. It is great to remember the changes good and bad that got us to where we are today. Like combat causing the toggle for "Find the Path" to turn off (don't miss that one, hehe).

Not a huge priority as they are superseded by current release notes, but fun in the end.

Thanks, that would be super fantastic! Low priority makes sense, but knowing it's on the list of things to do is totally cool. THere's no big rush.

The one thing I can say in wiki's defense is that it can't be edited willy-nilly. It seems to require at least a membership. Of course, that is not hard to get around, but it's better than being wide open to the world.
