What people don't seem to understand is that there are NO MMO's that I am aware of that don't have grind of some kind. Granted, I don't play any of those mentioned but have friends who have or still do. Run here, do this, kill that, run back, get the next quest, go back to the same area and kill the boss that you just killed...again. Craft this, craft that, farm for resources, craft some more, raid for gear, skirmish for marks and medallions, race to level cap in five minutes or less then complain "bored!" Nothing left to do! Isn't that the same with them all? Same meat, different gravy folks.

That is not true. Every quest in WoW is the exact same type as in LOTRO, the only difference is that LOTRO has good quest text.
Very much this, while I don't mind collect and kill quests - it can definitely get monotonous. I think the main thing that separates LotRO from other similar MMOs (in terms of quests) is that the quest-dialogue is really quite good, I always enjoy reading them and the different races, cultures and factions of Middle-earth all have nuances in the way they speak - which I think is great.

I have played many, many MMOs of all kinds and questing in them has always been the standard stuff we also see in LotRO. IMO if we are going to see innovation in this department, it will come from future titles - not from trying to shoehorn innovative quest-mechanics into a 7 year old game.
