Exactly this. Even before /world came along those channels were typically quite, aside from in Bree or occasionally in level-cap zones (/ooc or /regional used to call out warbands, etc). But people pretty much just clog /world up now because it will reach the most people for all zones.

I like global chats. What if I'm in Bree's /advice channel, helping them with something, but wanna continue questing? I can't leave or I'll end up outside that channel. Normally, this isn't likely to be too much of an issue, because you could take it to /tells. But what if more than two people are involved? /tells operate only between two people. Or if you are on a stable mount and you enter a different zone and you miss part of the conversation as you hasten to use /tells. I could see it even easy to forget that you were leaving that channel as you zone. You are focused on the conversation, not what's going on around you.

    Let us police ourselves

The only way to let us police ourselves is to let us invite only the people we wish to chat with onto a certain chat server. It would be a way of banning the Sellers of Items, trolls, whiners, passive aggressives, outright aggressives. In other words, one big Kin chat. Only those in certain kins can could be invited to that chat channel or the kin less approved by an approved channel members/moderators. How to let the new players into this would require advertising of some sort done in the public channels.

In the MMO Anarchy Online they have two channels moderated by players. Infractions are dealt with swiftly and those banned only have the public Game monitored channels to use. It saves allot of hassles and resources on the GM's and gaming staff. The reason there is two channels is that one has more relaxed standards than the other. People are still banned. Sellers are only only allowed to post items once an hour but the player stores like our AH is accessible 24/7. Player moderated channels are the only solution. Its impossible to police ourselves when the loudest and smartest of the trolls cause others to tune out of the world chat.

this thread was from august last year

...and I disagree, the chat is moderated to exact the extent we want it to be:

if a fellow gamer is offended, they can report
if the report seems valid, it's up to the GM to interpret what is an isn't allowed (given that specific situation)

THIS THREAD was created when one person had spent six days in a row making new accounts just to troll chat.
It was subsequently changed so a new account now has to wait three hours before it can use glff globallff and world chats.

It is no longer an issue. Move along!

You may still feel that the terms of use are not enforced...but I think they are, with very few (if blatant) exceptions.

Wouldn't that be a Scroll of Raise Thread?

Ignoring them does nothing except make the chat look strange you see half of the conversation because inevitably someone else replies, or something which also happens regularly on BW which I forgot to list, someone copypastas what was said so you know what was said anyway.

As for profanity filter, well, what has that got to do with the subject? we are not on about bad words which someone will type wi.th d.ots i.n t.o ge.t rou.nd the filter anyway. We are on about spammers, troll and people that start insulting others when they disagree.
Well if you can't just ignore those people then you'r part of the problem. Trolls will always be around as will people who insult others unless they violate certain rules which they haven't.

Does that allow threads to reanimate at the site of the reading or does it send the Thread to a rez circle? (or wherever they go in ddo. I used to know but I forget cuz I only traveled with clerics for a couple of days)

I'm guessing on site cuz this one just won't go away.

In my experience /ignore and /report work great, and the /world chat is a source of great community socialization for me.

One time, things started to get political, which I didn't like, so I suggested the subject of pies, and everyone started talking about pies. THE SYSTEM WORKS!
