I seem to be having the music issues as well. basically, it's just been more and more quiet gameplay, with seemingly no background music playing hardly ever. I've been considering actually putting together a cd track to play when I run the game, because it really gets just too quiet. I do have a RealTek integrated sound system, and on another thread regarding sound issues it sounds like there may be an issue attached to RealTek users as well.

Either way, considering the many positive things that I have seen done with the game over time, this music issue is kind of surprising, being that it like can hugely impact gameplay, and may even cause people to quit eventually?

I won't lie. The music problem is an issue with me, and if this was strictly a monthly sub game, I would have left because of it.

    +10, I have to agree.
Some of the in-game music is really amazing and more importantly, it "fits" the area you happen to be adventuring in 9/10. So it's very frustrating when it's not working.
I've resorted to popping on Music From the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Howard Shore (2004) and/or Lord of the Rings Symphony by Howard Shore (2011) when I'm playing.

Aye, levelling without the music isn't great, as the music creates an atmosphere, and prevents me from getting bored on the millionth 'kill x number of mobs', or when deeding. I think I'm too heavily invested into the game to quit, but my playing and levelling time, and thus the need for VIP, would be dramatically reduced.

Thankfully, Frelorn has said that the music should be reinstated in the next update, which is something to look forward to (aside from the fact that I've just left the non-music areas on my levelling character, but ah well :P )

I am running some new characters through the old content, and I am hearing much more music than previously. I have a dwarf and the Thorin's Hall music is playing again. I ran an elf through Trollshaws and heard that music plus Rivendell music. It made me stop and listen, that's for sure. I paid attention to that music more than the mobs. haha I didn't get a continuous stream, but I heard it enough to make me smile, and I haven't had a chance to listen to that music for a long while.

Thank you for the response, Frelorn.

We love the Eriador music tracks and I hope the dev team can squash this nasty bug once and for all!

maybe this isn't the best thread for it but does anyone recall what happened to the old SOA screensavers that came out back in 07?
Had em on the old computer but lost them when I switched to a newer laptop. I'd like to find them again.

After you said this, I went to check out Thorin's Hall (the easiest of the ones you listed), and for me, the music situation hasn't changed - there's still nothing beyond the ambient sound volume. But that's not surprising, considering there was no update since Frelorn's last response.

    That's really too bad.

I did know there hadn't been a patch to fix this issue. I was simply stating my surprise to hear that music since it has been missing for so long.

Out of curiosity, what operating system do you use? As I've heard that the Mac client doesn't have this musical bug, and I'm wondering if that might be the case for you. I hope you didn't take my post as intending to offend you - I was just clarifying that the problem still existed for me in the same way that it had before

I use a PC with Win 10. Nothing has changed on my end except the Win 10 OS. I can't imagine that making any difference. I did upgrade from Win 7. I really don't know why I could hear the music. I was surprised.

I was in Northcotton Cotton Farm today where you can kill the garden pests really fast. It was a fast paced "beautiful music-combat music!" "beautiful music-combat music!" "beautiful music-combat music!" "beautiful music-combat music!" "beautiful music-combat music!". Over and over and over.

Normally I would put the above posts in one of the several combat music threads, but also today I had a case of the zone soundtrack playing at the same time as the combat music.

I have noticed this issue for a while now. It has been at least 6 months or maybe more. I think it is a bug. Sometimes I go to all the areas and the music plays non stop. Sometimes it is intermittent (most common), and other times there is no music at all.

Would love to hear a moderator comment on this if they have any info.

With U17 the music seems to be playing again where it should be. So far I have tested the Shire, the Trollshaws and Eregion. Brings back a lot of good memories.

    Thanks devs for fixing it!

They fixed the background music? That's fantastic! This was something that really bothered me last I played, the music is a huge part of the experience for me - so this is awesome news

How about daytime Rivendell? That place has been like a tomb for years.

Eregion was never impacted (it's soundtrack is linked up with Lothlorien), but the day time Shire soundtrack and the Trollshaws still aren't playing for me - I'll try and reinstall and see if that has any effect.

EDIT: The Shire soundtrack appears to be working (although it takes a while to start), but I've definitely got nothing in Rivendell or Bree.

    Fixed? Not fixed?

I have been listening to a kinmate's travels through Eriador and it sounds awful... Shire is some form of weird Elvish tune and only reverts to Shire-music on the Brandywine bridge, the Prancing Pony is playing an intro to a budget horror-movie... what is going on?
    No sig whatsoever... oh wait....
