Nitpick - Bilbo got Sting in the Trollshaws, in the Trolls' cache. Same place that Thorin and Gandalf got their swords.

the main action of the game begins. (The Dwarf newbie intro,
where Thorin and company leave Ered Luin, is set in that year.)

What did happen, sword-wise, in the Barrow-downs in T.A. 3018
was that the Hobbits acquired their Arnorian daggers, one of which
Merry later used to hamstring the Witch-king. (Not by the hand of
man.....)
