LM have a skill about hitting with the staff, you just make a stick weapon and use it with martial arts animations. Better than fists.

And for people who might think that martial arts are off in middle earth, while I kinda agree, you just need to see how wood trolls fight, they know Kung Fu :P

You must admit that this idea is better than a random person fighting armored mobs and supernatural creatures with fists...
Brawlers - brawl. Noisy fighting, though, technically, a brawl means a fight with a lot of people. They wouldn't be trained in fencing or other weapon use, and I'd rather not see a class donning nunchakus, katanas or Bo staffs, as then we would have a martial artist, and not a brawler. If streetfighters (brawlers) were to use weapons, it would be chains, iron bars, or the most common of all, a knife.

On the hobbit thing, hobbits shouldn't really be going into battles at all, and the only class that really suits a hobbit is a burglar. But the game wouldn't have made it as far as it has without the other hobbit classes. There are too many hobbit fans that simply want to play their favorite race, and they don't want to be stuck with a sneaking thief with the only alternative being an adventurer. They aren't even game for adventures really.

Lore-wise they had archers as well. They send some to the Battle of Fornost.

Maybe. Maybe not. The books leave that a bit debatable (depending on whether you're a Hobbit or not).

It's not unlikely that they 'really' did, though, as that was a thousand years in the past (when hobbits were a lot more feisty) and even at the end of the Third Age, we know they went hunting (for food, not for sport) and were handy with bows. It wouldn't be surprising that nobody else remembered there being hobbits at Fornost because of what happened to the place.

Don't tell that to Bandobras "Bullroarer" Took or the 500 Hobbit archers who joined the Men of Arnor and the Elves to fight the Witch-King's army at Fornost.

Okay, burglar's and hunters, but that still wouldn't have cut it in a game where many fans of the story would want to play a hobbit, just because it's a hobbit, and they would want to play a variety of roles. Should we have tiny little warriors tanking huge battles? Probably not, but the game just wouldn't have worked as well as it has without them. There are whole kinships and various alliances based purely on hobbits. They wouldn't have got far or lasted very long with just archers and sneaks.

I don't think the game needs brawlers to be honest, but I do think there will be a large proportion of players that will enjoy playing them, just like a large proportion of players enjoy playing war crying, shield bashing, aggro hungry little folk.

    Agreed!

Replying here to the thread in general now:

    ---

Yeah, and since they are rail-roading this crazy idea that does to the Lore what Saruman did to the Deeping Wall, they might as well just open it up to Elves and High Elves who are closer to Tulkas in typology than mere mortals, *laughs* If anything, it would certainly be entertaining to watch my High Elf do absurd feats that would only have made sense in an Alternate Universe version of the First Age. ---- Alternate Universe, mind you; when's that Dr. Strange movie coming out? "The Multiverse of Madness"- yep, the Brawler class would've made more sense in that IP!

High Elf Brawler? Sure- would share more in common with Finrod Felagund who managed to battle Sauron with, *gasps*, his voice in song! Well, you can't get more impractical than battling the Enemy's Lieutenant with music- the very same one that Elendil and Gil-galad had to wrestle to their deaths! (*Thank the Valar they didn't make the Wrestler class and name it for Elendil and Gil-galad! The Brawler class isn't too far off from that!)

That would be more believable than some Gondorian soldier charging into battle against Orcs with his fists- a sorry understatement on the Brawler class. I'd rather laugh my head off with this than sulk in misery about the Lore at this point since it's happening anyway.

    Cheers!

P.S. Yes, I am throwing in some deliberate sarcasm and humor in my post above- don't take what I said above too seriously It's better to laugh at this point, in my view. I'd just rather sit back, laugh, enjoy what I can of the game, and come what may. Hehehe

Landroval player; I am Phantion on the forums only and do not have a corresponding character in-game with that name on any server. Cheers! :)

I don't like the idea of a brawler class either, but speaking of the great Finrod Felagund...

Other than engaging Sauron in a singing contest, he also defended Beren from many enemies to his own death WITH HIS BARE HANDS (and naked, if my memory has not failed me).

Elf songs can be curiously powerful in the lore. Luthien just dismantled Sauron's fortress by singing.

No, you're not wrong mate (although you might want to check the autocorrect settings on your iphone).

I too noticed the 'brawling' animations of some of the mobs in Wildwood, perhaps prototyping what we can expect from the new class. My warden found it pretty funny that the ruffians should come at a fully armoured adventurer with drunken haymakers, when all I had to defend myself was a sword, shield and javelin. A rather short encounter.
Perhaps they should have worn a pair of gauntlets.
    You wait.
    Time passes.
Thorin sits down and starts singing about gold.

I think it's more that Elves expressed the intent of their 'magic' through song (because singing is their thing) than the song itself being magical, since their power was supposed to be innate. It's like when Tom Bombadil banishes the Barrow-wight, it's not that what he says is magical in itself but it has force because it's him saying it.

Finrod put all his power into defending Beren, knowing it would mean his own death, which is why he could heroically slay the werewolves which had come for them. Rather like the couple of times a High Elf sacrificed themselves in order to take a Balrog with them.
