    Where are the stats?

I just assumed this was something that would come eventually, but umm, there has been no mention of it. Right now, Lorebook is almost worthless and everyone I talk too agrees. I mean it has some uses, but why are there no stats shown for any items in the game?

    Re: Where are the stats?

From Known Issues in the LOTRO Lorebook:
    • Item Effects are not displayed
    • Location information is not displayed
    • Monsters with special designators (Elite, Signature, etc.) are not noted as such
    It's coming.

You can also add them yourself, ya know. For example, I doubt the devs will ever add more info that what is actually displayed in the game tooltips. (Because that would take human effort, whereas the tooltip information can be automatically exported to the relevant Lorebook article.)

So for things like the Deeds, the tooltip contains only a fuzzy description. The real detail like exactly how many monsters to kill is shown in your deed log instead. You'll notice the Deed articles show only what's in the tooltip, so they might never contain details on exactly how many monsters to kill unless we players add that detail.

Um... the game tooltips are where the item stats come from. I'm not understanding how your post is relevant to this thread.

I agree - you look up an earring in lorebook, and the entry is absolutely useless because there are no stats shown. This isn't info that is burried in the game, it's in the same window or tooltip that contains the info that IS in lorebook, ie. vendor worth, bind type, and minimum level.

    Re: Where are the stats?

As others have stated, it's something we're working on. Unfortunately, the effect data is a lot more complex than the other data. Something like the 'value' of an item is a very simple numeric field. Effects are more involved. There are a LOT of different types of effects and even a single type can be fairly complicated to build up the description string from the underlying data files.

Replicating the logic to show the effect string from the underlying data proved to be a lot more work than it was worth. Instead, we're working on a system to get the effect strings from the game itself (as opposed to the underlying data files) so we can leverage the game logic that takes that data and makes it into a readable description. Unfortunately, this also means that it involves time from the game team which means it's competing with other game updates (i.e. it's going to take a little longer).

In the meantime, as others have mentioned, the wiki can always be updated by the community to contain additional information. It's a wiki. Like any wiki, if something is 'worthless', you can always update it to make it worthwhile.

A few fansites are adding that information to their own databases via user-input... one such site has traits, titles, items, and recipes... but you have to be a member. The site is www.gatornetproducts.com/alliance and is run by Arquero and Manderero from the Silverlode server.

To become a member, you can PM me and I'll add you in.

Try this they actually have a helpful database.

They have stats. When a fansite puts out a better DB that is more organized & helpful it is a shame. Obviously not too complex for them.

I agree. I don't see the point in wasting resources on the Lorebook when the information it contains is mediocre at best. For example I wanted to know how go get the title "Honorary Shirrif" for my character. The lorebook told me the title existed... and nothing more. That was really helpful.

    Re: Where are the stats?

I would say it's a typical example of data storage overoptimization, where they can't decipher even their basic item stats.
I would also go ahead and guess it's interrelated with the current LOTRO client's inability to link the items in the chat window, unless the item is in the inventory.

I think the game developers have more to do than to worry about building a user-database. Fansites, on the other hand have more people and time to dedicate towards adding information that we think is necessarry. At least LoTRO posts links and is actually quite helpful to those building fansites.

Let turbine build the game... we'll build the fansites/user guides.

Can your programmers use SQL to pull the data from the game's databases?

    QFT.

Better to have Turbine working on content/bug fixes than something that the community can, and will do, themselves.

Not to mention - the *purpose* of hte Lorebook, as a Wiki, is to let the community have a place to keep all the info - so we don't need to run around to 20 different fansites.

Any inadequacies in the Lorebook are our's.

That being said ... who has the time to enter all those items? :/

    Re: Where are the stats?

a few at a time my friend, a few at a time. The best items will get in first. When I win an item I'm excited about, or see a blue item posted in kinchat, I take a screen shot. Later when I've accumulated a few I crop the tooltips and post them in the lorebook.

I also do this for particularly vexing quests... verbal directions usually, but a map tool sure would be nice.
