Re: Dunland quest warning: 'Seeking a Solution' can potentially break your progressio

This sort of thing happens in Barnavon too. You have to kill homeboy whose name I think starts with P and his 4 guards. I activated the quest and found it strange that a Guardian was standing right by the unactivated guards. The fight ensues and sure enough I have credit for killing 3/4 guards and the the Guardian is sprinting along on her way.

Then it dawns on me; I have entered an infinite loop of grief. The only reason this guardian would kill one of my guys is if she too is short one guard and needs a kill. I send in a GM ticket and they say, sounds like a bug can't do anything. After a bit, I see a Minstrel from the same kin as the aforementioned Guard going in for the same quest. In a moment of spiteful weakness I tag one and get credit for the quest, leaving the Mini confused while the dust settles. Not a proud moment, but all I could do with the GMs unwillingness to assist.

    Unfortunate, but...

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

GMs don't help us, we help ourselves as best as possible.
    Farewell.

I would think that to save future headache on people you could have grouped up with that 2nd person so that you would have both got credit for it. Granted since they were from the same kin it would be hard to not do what you did simply for a little vengeance.

    It's definitely a critical bug.
It's definitely a bug that needs to be fixed, but I don't believe it to be critical -- there is a work-around for it (putting in a help ticket) and it's fairly infrequent (there aren't generally people hanging around there to trigger this bug). My opinion is that this bug is more severe than simply 'annoying' however it's far short of critical. To me, critical would be something that prevents my character from logging in, or is greatly disruptive to my game play on a frequent (read: not one-time and only a small percentage change) basis.

True, and the grouping up idea didn't come to me until later. I blame the pettiness on gaining 7 levels in two days and being unwilling to leave something undone. I don't condone my own actions, but then again, this should not even be possible.

sent a ticket in, Gm sent a message back saying

Thank you for your help request. The In-Game Support team does not provide information regarding quest beginning and completion hints and tips, locations of NPC’s/mobs, or other game-specific details of this nature. You can use the Advice channel from within the game to ask fellow players for assistance or you can visit the LOTRO.com forums and Lorebook for answers to gameplay questions such as the one you are asking. Good luck and thanks for playing!

=( all i asked for was my item back.

That's very disappointing, given that Berephon has already acknowledged this as a know issue with a fix coming in the next patch (see p1 of this thread). I thought that once something was a known issue, GMs are able to assist, or have I misunderstood how GMs work?

If you summon her, and someone else talks to her before you're done, and they finish before you do, your quest window will close and she will disappear. The shrine wasn't available to be clicked anymore. I submitted a bug report, of course, and a GM (after an expected very long wait) summoned her for me so I could complete it.
Interesting. This happened to my wife, she filed a ticket, and it was closed without even contacting her as "Not a known issue, file a bug report".

I think a GM's response depends on his/her mood at the time, a coin flip, and possibly the phase of the moon. Honestly, I have seen two people file two identical tickets, and one gets help, the other gets blown off. Turbine needs to do some *serious* work on the training of their in-game support. It's currently a disgrace.

if you know GMs are supposed to be helping with this issue your best bet, if blown off, is to write down the GMs name, report him to the devs and file a ticket again.
