    Middle-Earth Quiz!!

The game is simple. One person asks a question about anything regarding the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and someone else tries to answer it. The first person to answer correctly gets to ask the next question. I'll start:

QUESTION: The constellation of Orion is a figure of whom and what event does it prophecy?

    Re: Middle-Earth Quiz!!

Orion is Turin; It prophecies the last battle at the end of days.

    Re: Middle-Earth Quiz!!

That is not entirely correct. Telumehtar/Melevagor is the name for the constellation Orion and it means "Heavenly Warrior" and it was created by Varda long before Turin existed. The Big Dipper is called Valacirca or "the Sickle of the Valar" and it is that which foretells the Doom of Morgoth.

That is indeed correct. But very good guess, Felagund.

    Your turn, Earanduil.

Ah, too bad I didn't notice this thread before, I was just researching the palantiri for Last Alliance's latest riddle.

How about this: Everyone knows about the LOTR Boromir, obviously. But who was he named after?

He was named after Boromir, the eleventh steward of Gondor.

    Who killed Lalia Took?

    (Hi, Womdon.)

EDIT: Come visit the Riddle Game! http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=61882 It's very much like this thread, but with riddles instead of straight out questions.

Her servant, Pearl Took, by mistake.

Question: Under which King of Numenor did the Numenoreons begin to settle in Middle-Earth?

Hey LA, you beat me to the answer on that last one, but this one's all me.

    Pearl Took.

(I still remember the riddle pertaining to her, that was a good one btw)

So here's a question, what is "The Lord of Gifts" better known as?

EDIT: Dangit. I need to type faster.

Well technically the king at the time was Ar-Pharazon, but the guy who led the settlers was Elendil.

The Lord of Gifts... I'd say Sauron, aka Annatar.

What is Arwen's relation to Finwe?

Not exactly. Elendil led seven shiploads of the faithful there, instead of trying to overthrow Eru (smart guy). These guys were actually the last of the Numenoreons to settle in Middle Earth. I meant the very earliest settlers, before Elendil was even born.

    Edit: Her great-great-great-great grandfather? That's a guess.

2nd edit: I beat you by one minute, lol. Sorry.

    Re: Middle-Earth Quiz!!

The founder of Numenor was, I believe, Elros: son of Earendil, brother of Elrond, and first king of Numenor.

No, great-great-great-great grandfather is incorrect. You need to know the family trees.

    Re: Middle-Earth Quiz!!

Maybe my question is too confusing... Elros was indeed the first of the Numenoreons. However, for several kings (I'm not saying how many) the Numenoreons just stayed on the island. It was under _____ that the very first Numenoreons decided, "Hey, let's start a colony on that Middle-Earth place!"

Edit: I think I'm just miscounting the generations. Great-great grandfather?

    Tar-Meneldur?

    And yes, great-great-grandfather is correct.

    Yeah, that's the one.

New question: Everyone knows about Gandalf and Saruman, and most people know about Radagast. What were the names of the other two wizards who "go into the East" and are never heard of again? Bonus points for their colors.

Alatar and Pallando. Both were the blue wizards.

    Here's a toughy. (hopefully)

Who is Mrs. Bunce and why is she yelling?

Those would be the Blue Wizards (for some immature reason I always picture the Blues Brothers when I think about them). I believe their names were Allatar and Palando.

I'll let you have free reign for the rest of today anyway. That last one is too tough for me. Though I thought the Blue Wizard one would stump you all.

Yeah! Free reign! We have free reign! Wait a minute..... that's no fun. Someone answer my question so we can get moving again.

I'll alert our fellow Riddle Gamers to this thread so we can have some more fun.

Well I cheated and looked up the name, but I still don't know why she was yelling. I must not have read the story she was in... there's a few of Tolkein's works I haven't had the chance to go over.

Sorry, but I think this question would have been up here for way to long if I didn't just have that cough attack.

Mimosa Bunce would be the screaming hobbit in question. And I'm sure you'd yell too if you were confronted by a lonely troll.

I had fun finding that poem, by the way. I think I'll pick up The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. That was an enjoyable poem.

How about this for a quiz:

What were the answers to each of the riddles in Gollum and Bilbo's riddle-game?
