Middle-earth Feedback: Glóin
Glóin, one of the thirteen companions of Thorin Oakenshield and friend of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, is a notable figure in Middle-earth’s history. Players will encounter Gloin in The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™, and can learn more about this famous dwarf and father of Gimli, in this week’s update on lotro.com!
I always liked Dori better. Of all Thorin's companions, Dori was the only one that Tolkien himself ever described as "a decent fellow" and in the chapter "Flies and Spiders" Thorin told Bilbo that Dori was the strongest of them all. He also carried Bilbo through the Misty Mountains, and held him fast when the eagles carried them out of the surrounding forests.
Ironically enough, however, the two of them (Dori and Gloin) are often seen together in the books, even if they weren't brothers. They rode together across the Black water of Mirkwood, and fought together during the Battle of Five Armies.
Gloin is an interesting character, though -- you can tell by the way he talks to Frodo during the Council of Elrond that he was an honourable dwarf. I was surprised not to see him spending more time in Rivendell, in the game.
