Every time I see orcs dancing with each other or brigands spending their off-time by starting a band, I thank Turbine for having such a weird sense of humor. Props to you guys.

Haha!! I was just rereading the books when I picked that up! Very funny, Turbine! Props!Pippin roused a good deal of laughter with an account of the collapse of the roof of the Town Hole in Michel Delving: Will Whitfoot, the Mayor, and the fattest hobbit in the West-farthing, had been buried in chalk, and came out like a floured dumpling.

I think it only works when you're in a fellowship, but anyway, it says "It's YOU, [playername]!"
Oh, and in one of the hobbit prologue instances, there's a goblin dancing by himself in front of a fire. LOL. And the brigands with the instruments in the man prologue instance. Again, LOL.
not sure if it's been mentioned before but in the Shire quest "Unwelcome Visitors", Farmer Maggot mentions "hobbit-lads pinching a few mushrooms." IIRC Merry and Pippin steal mushrooms from Farmer Maggot sometime during FOTR...
My first raid idea.
The Third
The Second (Technically the third, but the real second one I have disowned!)
Actually it was Frodo who stole mushrooms in his youth, and was a bit nervous about seeing farmer Maggot again in case he was recognized. The movie took a few licenses and made it seem like Pippin and Merry were somewhat immature vegetable stealers.
i was close, at least i know for sure it's a reference to the books![]()

Here's the Goblin-town painting of the Eagle's rescuing Thorin & company (from The Hobbit):
And a nice one of Gollum:
Note what he's holding. I'm pretty sure it's the Asheron's Call logo.

No, I think he's supposed to be wearing the dread Ring.
That takes me back, though. I saw that box in Fry's and was hooked. What were those towering fungi? those giant insects locked in battle with men? I said to my husband, "I think I want this," and he said, "It's an MMO. You play it online and pay a monthly fee. Are you sure you want to do this?" "Hm," I said, and bought the hint book instead and took it home and read it for a week. The following week we went back to Fry's and bought the box.

I'm fairly certain that the thing on Gollum's right hand in that picture is the Ring, which further supports the argument that Gollum drew that picture himself--it fits his self-image of being The Gollum.

Well, I know it's supposed to represent the One Ring, but it looks just like the AC logo. Unfortunately, it's very hard to tell from that picture. I'll try to get a better one next time I'm in G-town.

What? The Goblins lived in fear of that mysterious creature that ate their kind without warning. They wouldn't investigate too closely just to identify what the shiny thing was.
There are way more goblins than Gollums, and at least one more weapon in each goblin's possesion than in Gollum's. Besides the shiny thing, wouldn't they want to get rid of a creature that ate their kind?
But I do agree that Gollum pained the picture.
The goblins could not have seen Gollum wearing the Ring.
So yeah, I think he drew the picture himself.
But I'd love to hear from Turbine - that is the AC logo, right?![]()

COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT! The line from the book was "keep it safe, and keep it secret". The line in the movie was the other way around. Turbine does not have movie rights. So how could they have said that line in the order that the movie did!?!?!?

I think the ruined wall by the East-West Road East of Bree (from the barrow downs entrance to about Adso's Camp) must have been the wall that Tom Bombadil mentioned that were once the borders of a great kingdom (which he said sadly).
I've decided to add a couple that I've found recently:
The following letter is located in the library of the Great Smials of Tuckborough. I'm having some trouble making out what it says, so I can only hope that it is another great easter egg.
Also, the Cirth runes above Dwalin's throne in Thorin's Hall say "Thraainul", which I interpret to mean "son of Thrain" - aka Thorin Oakenshield.
PS: If somebody could tell me how to embed images into my post, I'd really appreciate it.
EDIT: Done. Thanks, TheScyphozoa!
