Dev Diary Feedback: Introduction to the Legendary Item System

When Bilbo set out from Bag End, he was but a simple Hobbit with potential. There was no aura of legend surrounding him, yet through his actions and deeds he became a legend of Middle-earth. The Legendary Item system works in much the same way. Each Legendary Item contains the possibility of greatness.

Thumbs up Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Introduction to the Legendary Item System

Awesome!! This is one of the aspect of MoM that im most excited about, aside from the landscapes.

But a question, when something is deconstructed, does it have to be a legendary with legacies and what-not? Or can we deconstruct, say Rift gear or GF sets to get relics.

The former, not the latter. There are quotes from Turbine out there saying you can deconstruct raid gear, but that did not get implemented.

Love the shout-outs in the pics, by the way.

I'm very excited about this addition to the game. As an avid explorer in the game, it is exciting to think that I won't have to seek out raid groups and end-game instances to get the best loot. Rut rather, I can be meandering through a sparsely populated location and add to the story of my legendary items. Well done! 22 more days!

Awesome, this sounds really interesting and I can't wait to jump in and get my feet wet with all of it.

I do have one question, though. In everything I read, there was only part that didn't make sense to me--the cost (in legend points) of increasing legacies:

Each legacy has six tiers of quality, with the higher quality tiers costing less legend points to rank up.
That seems counter-intuitive to me. I would think that lower tiers, being less powerful, would be "cheaper" to rank up, whereas higher, more powerful tiers would cost more. But it sounds like the system is exactly opposite of that.

Would Hakai or anyone care to comment on this? I get the sense I'm missing something here, but I can't quite tell what. Thanks.

It was said in the diary that some monsters outside of moria might drop legendary weapons. Does this mean the weapons might be dropped in areas not in the expansion? If so will those without access to moria be able to make and use legendary weapons?

Who said higher tiered legacies are more powerful?

Higher Teir Legacies are cheaper to rank-up. Higher Ranked legacies are more powerful.

You need to finish Mines of Moria Book 1 to use Legendary Weapons. Players without mines of moria will only be able to sell these items on the AH or vendor them.

Probably depends on where the new NPCs are located. If they are only in Moria, then they can never identify the item.

OK, the basic premise is this...

The lower tier legacies are not less powerful, they are just more expensive to level up.

Now that being said, you may get an extra rank available on a higher tier legacy making it better. Look at it like this

    Example:

A tier 1 +Stealth Detection may only has one level most of the time. It starts at +0 but you can spend say 65 points to make it rank 1.

Now, that same legacy at tier 4 has 2 ranks it can go. While tier 1 now only costs say 45 legacy points to level up to +1 at rank 1, you could spend another 114 legacy points to move it to it's max at rank 2.

So by that example, it is cheaper to get a tier 4 to rank 1 as opposed to a tier 1, but now the tier 4 has a higher max rank.

Items can drop outside Moria, if you get one and do not have Mines Of Moria expansion, then you will not be able to identify them. There is a Forge Master outside Moria in Echad Mirobel, but if you do not own the expansion, you cannot interact with it.

You must have purchased Mines Of Moria to be able to use the system. However you can still sell the drops you get on the AH and trade them to other players. Legendary Items cannot be sold to NPC traders.

    But my favorite...

Igie's Mace Of The Buring Pyre....
But is that supposed to be "Burning Pyre" or is it really buring as in burs and bleeding?

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Introduction to the Legendary Item System

    Very, very, very exciting!
This is something that has re-re-hooked me on this game.

My ONLY complaint? Why so much frivolous(sp?) artwork in all the windows???

edit: Oh, the reforging at every 10 levels, I ASSUME that means every ten levels of the legendary item, and not every ten character levels. That was not made at all clear.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Introduction to the Legendary Item System

This was a great and thorough summary; thank you from all of us outside beta.

My only questions are about the titles:

    1) It says that once you apply a title it replaces the former one - but is the former title lost forever? IE - I get a title from an instance that gives my bow fire dmg. Later I get a new title for Westernesse. Can I choose to simply 're-equip' the Fire Dmg title at a forge-master at some point in the future or do I have to run the first instance again?

    2) On a related note when you earn a title to you have to decide immediately if you want to equip it? Does it take an inventory slot or just available as a list?

I think it's too bad that Guardians can't have legendary shields. You explained the reason why pretty well, and from a game mechanic perspective I'm sure it'll all be a wash.

But just from a pure thrill standpoint, there would be something wonderfully satisfying about a legendary shield. I hope it's possible that this could change in the future.

So, given that you can't use Legendaries until you finish V2 Bk1, does that mean you should do it before V1 Bk15?

    1. Yes it is lost forever. You can just rerun the instance you got the fire damage one from, they are all repeatable.

    2. They take up inventory slots. They look like scrolls.

It's not finish Bk1, you get your first legendary in the middle of book 1.

I'd recommend doing Bk1 first, but you don't have to.

No, you do not have to finish the SoA books before starting the MoM books. They are 2 separate stand alone books and one is not required for the other.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Introduction to the Legendary Item System

I didn't word my question well.

O.K., Bk15 & MoM unlock at the same time. Would it be better from a development perspective to work V2 Bk1 until I get a legendary and then go back to V1 Bk15 so that I'm getting Item XPs while I do it?

Or is Bk15 short/basic enough that I won't miss out on much if I do it first and then do V2 Bk1.

Basically, I'm trying to decide if I want to be Obsessive/Compulsive and finish Shadows of Angmar before I start Mines of Moria.
