Dude, seriously, some of the calls I take.... Jesus, it scares me that some of these people are responsible for stuff they put in space! I can't name the company I work for, but they make chemicals. They handle explosive/combustible chemicals, carcinogens, and God knows what else. But I swear, this is God's honest truth, some of the people I talk to HAVE NEVER ever used the shift key on their keyboard...in their life.

The ones who use a capital letter use the Caps Lock key, then type the letter, and then turn Caps Lock back off.

Recently, we changed our password policy to require special symbols like the #, $, %, &, etc. Forget about it. It's sad that I have to explain to some people how to use the Shift key. And then I have to explain why there's 2 of them, and what the difference is ("One of them is on the left, the other is on the right....that it!")

Yeah, a lot of people would be surprised how many scientists have a problem with computers. I always end up being the computer guy at my lab.

I think I would LOVE to hear you trying to assist someone...I mean I would be recording it solely for training purposes.

Ya know, as big of an ***-hole as I am in game and in real life for that matter. I have more commendations by customers for my level of representatives then anyone on the floor Customer Service is a really easy job as long as you know how to troubleshoot and talk to people.

She stated that her username and password from hotmail should work to unlock anything she wanted on the internet, and that we needed to contact our technical support team to see if we could talk to hotmail and have this done -_-

"BUT NO, THAT CAN'T BE! My house has never been on fire before... Are you sure it's not something else?"

"No, ma'am, I'm pretty sure your house is on fire. We see this kind of problem a lot."

"Well, what caused this? Nobody else's house is on fire... Why am I the only one affected by this? I didn't set my house on fire, and nobody else is in my house to set it on fire. I don't think it's on fire."

"Ma'am, I can certainly understand your frustration. <This is scripted, we are REQUIRED to say this to users who are upset.> However, all the symptoms you've described indicate your house is probably on fire. Is your house becoming hot?"

"Oh my gosh, yes, it is! How did you know that?"

"This is another very common symptom of a house fire. Unfortunately, I will not be able to resolve your house fire issue from here at the 911 Help Desk. However, I can dispatch the Fire Department to your home to put the fire out for you. Do you want me to dispatch the Fire Department?"

"When will they be here?"

"There's really no way for me to know. I will dispatch the ticket to them right now so that they know you are having a problem with your house being on fire, but I don't know what their schedule is. The Help Desk doesn't manage the resolver team responsible for house fires. <This is another thing we have to say that is scripted.>"

"Well, I might not be home. I have an urgent meeting to attend, and I'm on my way out the door right now. Can you have them call me when they want to come to my home to put out the fire?"

"No ma'am. You have not provided me your telephone number because you don't remember it, so I will not be able to have the Fire Department call you before they come to your home."

"Oh. My number is 937-555-6048. Can you make this an urgent issue? I absolutely need my house to not be on fire as quickly as possible. My home office is in my house, and I need my home office to do business in. I can't work in my office if my house is on fire."

"I will be happy to code your case as an important issue. (Important is below urgent, and 2 levels below critical...and 3 levels below catastrophe. Somehow, when they ask for Urgent, and you give them Important, they're happy with that.) Would you like the ticket number for this issue?"

"What is the ticket number for?"

"In case the Fire Department doesn't respond in an expedious manner, you can call the 911 Help Desk back, and we can check the status of your ticket."

"Ok, go ahead and give it to me."

"Do you have a pen and paper handy?"

"No, I'm driving in my car, I had to leave for that meeting I told you about."

"Ok, well, perhaps I could email it to you?"

"Sure. And if you have any questions about your house fire issue, or if you have any emergencies in the future, feel free to give us a call back. Have a nice day!"

"Yes, I payed almost 20 dollars extra for overnight shipping, and my package still hasn't arrived, can you tell me what the **** you guys are doing? and where the **** my package is?"

"Yes ma'am, can I please have your order number?"

"91021045637992..."

"Ma'am?"

"What?"

"That's the actual FedEx tracking number, your order number should be an 8 digit number, usually starting with the digit 1"

"What the hell, how do you expect people to remember all this ****?"

"It was sent to you in a confirmation email when your package was shipped Ma'am"

*grumbles and rushes off to the computer* Alright, here it is"

"Alright, it shows here your package was actually delivered about 20 mins ago to your front door step"

*more cursing* "You people(love this line, god I get fired up when they say this) don't know what the **** you're talking about. Why would I be calling if the package has been delivered, do you think I'm some kind of idiot?"

"Ma'am, have you verified that the package isn't on your doorstep?"

"There's no way in hell it's on my doorstep, I have a security guard and gate(like they're NOT going to let a FedEx truck in a gated community)"

"Ma'am, I'll need you to verify that the package is not on your doorstep before I can continue to work on this matter further"

(After about 5 mins more of her cursing at me and her telling me exactly how a FedEx postman delivers a package I finally talked her into looking out on her porch)

"Ohh wait, I think I see something on my porch. It's probably not my package, but let me go check...and don't you dare hang up"

"Yes Ma'am, I'll hold"

"Hmm, it seems to be a package, let me open it to make sure.............ohh, it's my order. bye"

About 20 mins later my supervisor shoots my whole floor an email that was written by this woman apologizing for her actions and stating that our Customer Service was by far one of the best she's seen, and despite the troubles she had with her shipment she will continue to go to us instead of the competitors just due to knowing that if she does have any trouble, our Customer Service has the patience to fix the problem.

I usually tell them "Have a WONDERFUL evening" after I ask them if there's anything else I can assist them with. That usually just makes them in a worse mood because you're actually still being polite to them even after all the **** they put you through, lol.

Ours are pretty close to the same thing. Random ones get recorded, monthly evaluations, etc, etc. The good thing is that my boss does the "quality monitoring," and I can see him from my desk. If he has his headset on, I know he's doing QM, so I behave like a good boy. If not...well... hehehe... Anything goes!

We have to give users a closing script that includes the word "future." Something like "If there's anything we can do for you in the future....." It's kinda stupid because we get hung up on a lot. Oh well. C'est la vie. Non... C'est la guerre.
