Explorer or Yeoman would be good choices.

Myself, I chose Yeoman so I could grow (farmer) and make (cook) my own food. And being a Hobbit, it's a necessity. Can't be running out of food can I? Tailoring is good because you can make your own clothes if you like.

If you go Explorer, (prospector/forester/tailor) you can sell the materials and make enough coin to buy food/potions that you'll need. And you can still make your own clothes.

Is this an alt or a main?

If it's a main, go Explorer. Mine is a Yeoman and I hate it. All the time I spend on her and she can't gather materials for my crafting toons along the way.

If it's an alt, then I do find the hobbit ports useful for cooking and farming.
There's a superior study in the Mathom House so scholar isn't bad either.

If this is your main, then I'd definitely go with Explorer just for Prospecting and Foresting. You'll also get Tailoring, but if you're like me you'll probably never get to craft your own armour since class level is almost always higher than crafting profession levels. With an Explorer you can supply crafting alts or just make a lot of coin on the AH. Also with an Explorer you'll be able to gather almost all of the resources required to make anything that you might need, but then all you have to do is find another crafter who can make it. Another crafter will be much more likely to make what you need if you can supply them with the required resources.

If you don't care about any of the above, then I'd just pick whatever sounds the most interesting and go with it because I can't really think of a "best" vocation for a minstrel.

I think all professions are suitable for all classes. You really can't go wrong. So the question is, what do you want to get out of crafting?

If you want to make money, I would probably go with explorer or scholar for selling raw materials.

If you want to be able to make your own food or jewelery, go with Tinker.

If you want to be able to make your own scrolls and pots, Scholar.

If you want to be able to make your own legendary items, scholar or weaponsmith (book or weapon, respectively).

If you want to be able to make your own armor, go with something that has the tailor profession, however: (unless you enjoy grinding for the mats early on, you will quickly outgrow the armor you can craft. at level 58, rad gear is easily obtainable and is currently better than anything you can craft).

As people mentioned the important question is whether you have other characters and if so what professions they have.

If this is your first toon I'd recommend something that can prospect ore. You can never have too much ore.

Re: Best Profession for a Minstrel?

I made my minstrel a Historian, primarily for the Scholar profession. It keeps me in blue pots, scrolls, and I can supply all my other crafters and alts with scrolls, potions, etc. Really though, it was all about the blue pots

    My other crafters are:
    RK - Tinker (guilded Jeweler)
    LM - Yeoman (guilded Cook)
    Guardian - Woodsman (guilded Woodworker)
    Hunter - Armsman (guilded Weaponsmith)
    Minstrel - Historian (guilded Scholar)

The only profession I haven't maxed is Tailor...never really found much use for it, given I always out-leveled the armor that I could make for my level and raid armor > crafted mostly.

tinker all the way --jewelery and hope tokens will serve you better than armour, weapons or morale pots although historian is a close second.
