When I'm in a Minstrel mode and buffed with my own tale, my morale is just over 5k and my power is about 5.5k. That's with a low-end ICPR in the 900 range though. I opted for more power intensive jewelry instead of the ICPR stuff and I'm enjoying that more as I feel I can last longer with the higher power pool and with a Captain ICPR buff I'm over 1k, with a power banner I'm well over 1k.

Hrm, my.lotro is showing an odd combo of items for my gear as it's half pvp and half pve. That won't help much at all I'm afraid, heh.

I have started to sacrifice ICPR for straight power. I think I want to eventually end up with around 5k power. I hovered around 4.7-4.8 today and still at around 1080 ICPR, this allowed me to get the Crit buff, because without it I am cranky. The captain crit buff allows me to swap crit rings for straight power rings. Most items these days that cause me a net loss in power make me cry an I usually pass them up. I even swapped my Loth shield for the light shield from Boss 1 of HoC.

2.8K+ Crit heals mean I can get two for one. That saves me 130 power right there. I am also not lucky enough to have a book with -healing power cost. When hardcore healing, I do slot Life Singer + 1 random blue trait for the -15% healing and would like to see where the DN set sits me with power. If I am not mistaken it has the -healing power cost as the set bonus.

As a PS I used to run with 1.2K+ ICPR and less power, I do not feel inept with -120 ICPR and +400-600 power.

You may like having 5300 power, but I guarantee you that you are not outhealing me, and I also guarantee that I will survive to heal my group longer than you will.
I agree with this sentiment. Particularly if you are raiding or if you are just doing difficult instances, morale is very important. Generally, we tell our mins/rks to shoot for 5k unbuffed morale for raiding to get them through the tougher fights. Can't heal if you're dead.

If your ICPR is high enough, you shouldn't need a huge (5k+) power pool. The only fight where that's different is the LT, where you should tank ICPR and get raw power as high as possible (while keeping will maxed, natch'). For that fight, I'm generally at 5500 power with traits/gear switches but in other fights, such a large pool is unnecessary, imo.

Having even a few pieces on you to switch in and out as needed can be a big help. There are a lot of earring options out there, some that are better for will/fate/power and others that are better for fate/morale, for example.

How much do you all do stuff other than heal? Do you ever just stand there, or are you constantly tiering up ballads or helping DPS with PC etc. Coming from playing a warden, if I'm not pushing as many activities into a small a window as possible, I feel like I'm failing somehow.

I'm running about 4000 power and about 1200 icpr (after dual tales), and about 4000 morale. You can follow the link to my minstrel under my sig. I know my armor stinks and I'm working on that.
My power is between 5000 and 5300 depending on how I trait. I am constantly casting something when in SH and I never run out of power. My icpr is about 1200 as well. Make sure your will is maxed since that'll help you with power and your healing output will increase which means you don't have to heal as much. I pretty much exclusively use my big, slow heal. It's cheap and heals a lot. When you can put out 1800 - 2200 from one heal, you don't have to heal a whole lot, which frees up power to do other things. I've got 20% on my ballad of war so I try to keep that up if I've got melee in my group. The faster we take things down the less power I need to use.

The bit about the group is so very true. A great group reduces the burden on the minstrel which allows you to play more how you want instead of spamming BC.

I use a +10% BoW Macro Book that makes any melee heavy group shine.

These are all great suggestions for builds. I just want to point out though that power issues may also arise from how the group plays--It doesn't always rest on the mini's shoulders.

For example, if you have a champion tanking in fervour, your going to spend A LOT more power on healing than if you were healing a guardian or warden. Or if the entire group is getting AOE'd by mobs because they don't get behind him. There's another power sink because you're constantly healing the entire group instead of 1 or 2 people.

Just know that sometimes power issues are out of your control. If you've done everything you can to maximize your power pool and ICPR and manage your power (i.e. using bolster courage whenever you can and not Chord of Salvation every time it's up) then if you're still having problems, it may be the group--not you.

That's crazy talk. It's always the healer's fault!

Ask me about my group that wouldn't interupt Gorothul and asked me to go retrait...
