    Re: Servers Down?

I don't mind delays as they have often been generously rewarded in the past. Can we have f2p content access early, pretty please if this is part of the maintenance it shouldn't be too hard right? Only joking of course, but seriously goodies all around after today would be nice.

    Sincerely,
    Patient Player

    I'm not upset here.

At this point in the downtime I'm more curious as to what is being achieved today. New servers? New equipment?

Curious minds would like to know.

    That is all.

At this point I'm just hoping they bring the servers back up by Sept 10.

i hope their not trying to untangle their data-center mess.

this must be why the downtime takes so long, i mean its would take a while to actually organize this.

Really? Because I have played a few and the communication is usually terrible... generic "we are working on it" statements with inaccurate time estimates.

I'm not sure why these companies play their cards so close to their chest... I think they would find, if more open and honest with their users, that most of us would not only understand the software and hardware upgrades they are doing, many of us may have even done some similiar work in data centres around the world... they might even find the impatience and anger replaced by sympathy and respect for the amount of work being accomplished... but sadly all we get is an update every hour saying it will be another hour making the estimate completely untrustworthy and therefore almost useless... I really think they under estimate their audience and the positive impact simple honesty could produce.

That or the boards would be instead flooded with know-it-all jerks talking about how stupid the MMO's employees must be... *sigh*

ah Old EQ , back then though we werent all just a bank roll number to an MMO company, they actually did stuff for us cause they knew we wouldnt take it. now look at us , we wait for horribly long over times with nothing they provide us to do besides troll their bandwidth dead forums. and we take it why? because we know they dont care and prob never will , not like game companies used to anyhow.

used to be a time when the customer was right , in todays civi the business man is right , dont like it go with out!

A number of things. If you recall we had several server specific down times last week and one that was canceled. Today we're completing the work that was started during last week's down times in addition to the four worlds that had their maintenance canceled. This is almost all storage and database related work.

Oh and in case you didn't hear, the worlds are now open.

Arkenstone is still close as of 15:50 EST. It's the only one that is closed.

    Thanks Murphy's Law, heh.

**Edit** As I posted this, it came back up. Nevermind me.

I agree with you completely, really. Thankfully the worlds are now available again, and although we did get to know what happened today in the end, it would've been awfully nice had we known before now. I know it sounds silly, but it would have been somewhat significantly more comforting to know what they were doing. People get more easily frustrated when they don't know what's going on.

Not really. They could have said, as Sapience just did, that they were continuing the maintenance and database work from last week; which by the way was a reasonable extrapolation of what they were doing based on no knowledge.

The likelihood is that then half the population would then ask for a detailed project plan and proceeed to point out how 'they' could have done it better. It's a no win situation here for Turbine on downtime information.

This is why we usually refer to 'maintenance' in stead of a detailed list. It's a bit like saying, "I'm cleaning the house on monday" without going into a list of exactly each room, surface, or dirt encrusted bathtub you're going to be cleaning and how or with what.

I've seen maintenance before and it never gave me that launcher error before, they need to do something better then that... 3+ hours trying to fix it, and its suppose to be like that, what next... 8(

This is so true. I would be much more understanding if they would at least give us some truth. Sorry for the inconvenience, thank you for your patience and understanding and other standard replies that you hear from all service providers just don't cut it.

Not from me. I really expected no answer to my question from anyone at Turbine. Sapience's answer was more than enough for me. I'm not an IT person. So, I cannot sit here and say how I could've done things better.

My question was based more out of simple curiosity. I got curious because more often than not, Turbine brings worlds back up before the allotted time is up. When it did not happen this particular time, I got curious.
