Gotta admit, as happy as I am to have it available (and I'm ecstatic!) it costs way more than I expected. I'm going to have to give serious thought to what to do next. I have 8 characters across 2 servers at max vault space, and at 995 a pop, that's .. mm .. more than I care to spend. By a lot. Now I have to decide which, if any, characters are going to get this space, or if I'm going to manage some of it with alts until (if) the price becomes more reasonable.

Still, I'm glad it's there and I'm sure when players find out about it, it will be a popular item.
995?! That's a rather significant increase from the 495 price during beta (I thought prices were supposed to go down, not up!) and I thought 495 was highway robbery. I'm better off putting those points toward another character slot for a mule. 105 slots versus just 15 and for nearly half that price.

I guess I'll be passing on this one.

I'd consider 995 if it opened that much vault space across all servers on every character I was ever going to roll.

The old vault is a thing of the past. Now that you can buy extra slots from the store, it's easier to add them to the new vault then the old.

Still wish I had my old vault back.

Agreed. I'd love to have all of the extra vault, shared storage, and wardrobe spaces possible but they're all too expensive for me, particularly since the vault unlock is only per character. Of course, I'm still a little perturbed about the price on shared storage and wardrobe slots going up before getting any points with which to purchase them. The current "sale" price, which is still higher than the original cost, isn't helping.

I'm hoping they're still tweaking/testing price points. If not, then I suppose I'll have a bunch accumulated for expansions. But hey, I did buy the pretty elf queen dress, so I can't quite say I haven't used the store at all.

Blame the code monkeys who couldn't figure out how to expand the old vault. Then blame the code monkeys who couldn't figure out how to fix the new vault they used to fix the old vault that wasn't broken in the first place. But now you can just throw your underwear in the kitchen, socks in the bathroom and trifocals in the toaster. And POOF turbine will automatically alphabetize them for you on a wonderful list you can sit and scroll. Be honest, you really didn't like that you could hit a single key and open all your chests and bags, did you? You really didn't need your untreated wood above and in the same bag as your treated wood did you? Have a nice day

I think its this weekend but it will cost you turbine points plus a few minor quests to all the major cities using the /search emote, the /search emote can be purchased at the store for turbine points. lmao funny post but I LOVE the idea, let's get those code monkeys right on it hmmm.

In real life I don't have my shirts, socks, pajamas, underwear, etc all in one big drawer where I can open it and see everything I need. I have them separated into smaller drawers where I automatically know which drawer to open if my feet are cold.

I would love to have a dresser where I could just drop my laundry on top and it would fold and organize my things so when I got up in the morning I could just get dressed.

But there are those who love to fold and iron so I hope the system gets worked out so everyone is happy.

    Re: New Vault

I must say I'm not fond of the new Vault UI at all. Before, I could open the Vault and see everything in all my chests laid out and grouped just the way I liked it. I had a chest for medicines, a chest for farming items, a chest for crafting ingredients ... well, you get the idea.

I now have to search and sort and filter and scroll to find anything. And the fuzzy, non-intuitive distinctions between such things as 'Crafting Ingredients', 'Crafting Resources' and 'Crafting Components' don't help.

Personally, I find the large 'icon with name' style to be visually cluttered and confusing to the eye. Before, I could just look at the icon in the chest slot, identify the item by sight and note the number of them in the slot. I could dwell the cursor on it if I wanted more info. It was minimal, compact and simple. Now, the window takes up half the screen with item names that I don't need.

I appreciate all the work that must have gone into the new vault UI and, for the sake of the devs who developed it, I wish I found it easier to use but I don't.

I wish there was a UI check-box in 'Options' that would let me revert to the old style.

If that is not possible, please at least allow players to NAME THE CHESTS, so we have some way of visually organizing that doesn't rely on memorizing which of your 10 chests contains your crafting resources ... or components or ingredients or whatever those things are.

How is that different now? The default view when you open your storage is to show the contents of all the available storage in one list, but you can rather easily pick specific chests to view on their own. Also, when you opened your storage for the first time post-patch, the contents should have been placed in the new storage based on how they were separated before.

Agreed. I'm holding out hopes for manual sorting and seeing chests side by side in a (hopefully not to distant) future update. Getting rid of the names will be helpful, as is horizontal resizing. If I can manual sort and see chests side by side, then I don't really care about chest naming as it would work and look similar to the old system that worked so well for so many.

    QFT

995 points for 15 banks spaces is highway robbery for sure! I would only pay that much if ALL of my characters got 15 extra spaces. I'm also not happy that the so called sale on shared storage and wardrobe is still more expensive than it debut but at least that space is open for ALL of my characters. Looks like I am going to continue sitting on my points until Turbine decides to have a real sale where prices are reasonable.

Turbine, nice try at draining all the founder/long time subscriber point banks but with these prices I don't think many people are going to bite unless they are absolutely desperate for space.

So it's $10 per character for a single bank space upgrade? Wow! Take your time on the loyalty points. I'll just bump my storage toons bank spaces up with in game gold. Thanks anyway.

First an update on the new features - I've been able to get most of what everyone has been asking for implemented. QA has yet to take a pass through it, so it's possible that something will be found to be terribly broken and will need to be pulled, but so far so good.

You will be able to resize the vault (and shared storage) horizontally, rename chests, and turn off item name display.

The major piece we weren't able to get to is manual sort. I'm sure we'll catch a lot of flak over it, but it just didn't fit in the schedule. Instead, there will be a new kind of sort that automatically sorts some items within the vault for you (for example IXP runes by value). Over time, this automatic sort can be extended to become smarter and smarter.

Manual sort is still on the list of possible improvements, but now looks like it probably won't make it to the next major update.

There are also other improvements that you haven't asked for, but I think will like a lot .

At least reading the posts by the blue names in a thread you post to would save you a lot of frustration.

I have a question concerning this newly available 15 slots of vault space. These spaces are in addition to the spaces purchased by gold, correct? If I were to purchase these 15 slots via Turbine Points, it would not merely be an alternate way to upgrade via gold? This upgrade is completely independent of the gold upgrade system?

    Thanks.

Correct. You can only purchase up to 120 slots per character with in-game gold. These last 15 are Turbine Points only.

Some people like the name shown, some people, such as yourself, don't like it. For the next major update, we have implemented a togglable view where you can choose whether you want the names shown or not.

Unfortunately that isn't feasible. The whole back end for the vault is now different.

That is coming as well. By the way you have actually 11 chests - the "Main Chest" and the other chests 1 through 10.

    Not entirely.

You start out with 30 slots in your vault.

Let's say you use in-game gold to upgrade to 60, but then don't feel like spending more in-game gold to go to 75. You can go to the store and buy the offer for 15 more slots. This offer will take you to 75. Then you will be able to go all the way to 120 with in-game gold if you want. However, you won't be able to go to 135 with just in-game gold at that point.

The only way to go from 120 to 135 is through the store.

So - if you want to go to 135, you will have to buy the item that gets you those extra 15 slots when you are at 120 slots. How you got to 120 - by which combination of ingame gold and TP purchases is up to you.

The difference is you can only see one chest at a time. Without being able to name your chests (which is coming moresoonerishnessly I believe) you have to either a) remember what is in each chest (hard to do when you have an account full of characters, all whom craft at kindred/SM level) or b) look in each chest until you find what you're looking for and hope you don't overlook it.

The item description toggle, horizontal scaling, and chest naming are going to go a long way to making this new vault much more functional for those of us (like me) who are visually oriented. Once that's done, being able to see all chests at once may finish off the functionality for a lot of people. Manual sorting would be very nice, but that looks like it's been put on the far back burner on low.

    Have you considered:

Since the new vault seems to be an effort at table normalization with proper indexes and tagging (seems like, could be way off of course) if you were to add a new tag (much like you will with names in the future) for X and Y UI layout coordinates of each chest and icon type? Not for us per se but behind the scenes for you.

It seems like if that were implemented you could keep your back end optimization changes and in the future allow people to have A. a separable and movable UI chest (like before) and B. the ability to visually sort inside of each chest (like before).

So a chest could be something like:

    Chest->NAME, X, Y

    and an item would be:

    Item->CHEST, X, Y

Just a thought based on what it seems like you might be doing under the hood.

As for the 120-135 for 995 points, yeah, that is/was a ripoff. But, I yielded into temptation and got it for 3 out of 9 toons who were busting at the seams.

@Ransroth: thanks for the updates. sounds great. I have one small tweak of a suggestion, that probably isn't feasible but I will mention anyway

Instead of a scroll down menu for the chests, perhaps a vertical sidebar of 10 little chest icons that you could click to. Of course, then there would be a problem with where to put the name, but perhaps that could be toggle-able too. I already have my 10 chests memorized anyway

That is actually something we got to do for the next update. Mostly I'm very happy with the way it turned out - made room for a bit of the name and an icon.

    Re: New Vault

I've found the new Vault system to be rather empowering. Especially as I focus so much on crafting on my characters, the 'chests' have afforded me the luxury of being able to separate all crafting components by their respective tiers, without being limited by the old 15-slot chest.

My very first gut reaction when seeing the new Vault system was one of 'habit'--I was so used to organizing by slot--but I very quickly adapted to the new Vault system, finding organizing by carefully designated slot was really unnecessary because I could finally view the names of all the items at once!

And of course, so much of this new found ease-of-use with the Vault system couldn't have happen if it wasn't for Turbine finally removing the level requirement for purchasing more Vault space--that single-handedly made all the difference for me!

I'm excited and looking forward to the upcoming improvements to the Vault system--sounds like some really nice tweaks are going to be implemented.

I think, knowing this, that a great many people would very much like it if the Lua scripting API were granted access to the vault interface in the way it currently is for the inventory interface or even a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Anything that any of us could do client-side to regain control of our vaults in the manner in which we were previously accustomed would be exceedingly welcome.

I don't mean to diminish all of the work you folks have done, but the vault issue keeps coming up in conversation with my kinmates, not to mention glff and the forums, and it seems like leaving it in the hands of the players themselves with Lua scripting might perhaps be an easier solution for both the players and the staff, if it were possible.
