Ack! I was being sarcastic, trying to highlight how abysmal the whole alphabetical presort is by getting you to think about how it would look if you had to try fighting without knowing where the system was going to put your pots in your backpack. Little did I imagine that it'd get real support!
Or are you guys doing a Colbert-style reverse twist on me?

I like the new vault since it solves many of the problems I had with the old one. While I am not sure how it would work when dealing with your character's bags, I don't think the deciding factor would be not knowing where it put my pots.
If I'm fighting and have to rely on opening my bags and finding the right pot in time...I'm doomed under either system. That's why they go on a quickslot bar instead.![]()
The only thing I can do is say NO WAY. I would absolutely NOT want my character bags done in the same way as the vault. A thousand times NO, NO, NO. Between the mob trash drops, random recipes, and quest items, it would be far too inconvenient to have to stop and organize my bags. I like visual bags - housing chests can have the new vault look, but leave my pocket space alone.
....and don't get me started on how much of a PITA it'll be just to search for trash loot when you visit a vendor.![]()

Why not take it a step further? Perhaps they should alphabetize your quickslot bars as well. . . .
Taking it just one step further, and making the changes to the shared vault, is all fine since it never had the utility of the old vault and anything is an improvement there. The lack of utility of the new system and lack of a manual sort option though can get a bit out of hand as one increases the size beyond the original 20 slots.
Yes, I put pots on my quickslot bars so I can find them quickly, and breaking the vault does not affect them. But, as I stated earlier, until they prioritize manual sorting there is no possible way the sort filters will substitute for all the different reasons a person may sort items.
Quickslot bars function for means to quickly locate a skill or item for the exact reason the new vault system does not, it is manually sorted and you know exactly where your skills, pots, and items are.
Personal bags do much of the same for items and equipment that might not fit on a quickslot somewhere. Personal bags often can be the place to find tokens, food, healing vs. DPS LIs, resist gear, maps, etc. At a certain point, one cannot put EVERYTHING on quickslot bars. This is also where auto-sort options fail to perform what manual sorting is needed for; if I need to use certain equipment I know right where it is and all 3-4 items will be right in a row.
I suspect though that while you probably manually sort your quickslot bars to know where things are, you might not manually sort your personal bags (why some would not be so worried if they converted them), and likely never sorted your vault (which is why you find utility in the new system).
There are a few improvements I could think of for character bags that, if they were added along with the new style, would be worth it for me.
I can dream, can't I?
- being able to set an auto-sort into specific bags (all trophy/trash into bag 1, crafting into bag 2, etc)
- being able to set some bags as no-sell
- having different bag space/storage for reputation items
Being able to filter by trophy/trash items could potentially make it easier to find them when at a vendor.....and don't get me started on how much of a PITA it'll be just to search for trash loot when you visit a vendor.![]()

I do manually sort my bags and I did manually sort my vault. I would not be immediately sold on making the current vault changes to the character bags. I was just pointing out that pots is probably not the best example to bring up for why it would not work as well. Other things, sure. I have my legendary weapons in a specific spot, I have foods sorted by type of buff, and on some characters I have different crafting tools right where I know I can find them to swap quickly.
That said, there are improvements I can think of for character bags. See my post above for a few of them.
For the vault it is a different story. It is not often I have the need to find something in the vault for the same reasons I need to find something in my bags. The vault-keeper rarely attacks me, so swapping weapons is not a priority. Orcs and goblins don't use the same banking services, so I don't need to grab a snack to be ready for them to come in and start some brawlin'. And I am never out in the wild with my prospector's tools, see a branch lying on the ground and think, "aha! off to the vault where I left my forester's axe in a convenient-to-find slot!"
You are correct that people do things different ways and have different opinions on the new system. Just don't start thinking you know why.![]()
I do not want to see the new Vault style applied to personal bags. It would make it difficult to monitor what new items you've just picked-up are and which bag they ended-up in.

ha! no kidding! I've already "lost" things in the new vault already - by accidentally assigning them to the 'wrong' bag. Kind of like "I KNOW I put that thing in my vault, now where the heck is it??" I think smoke would start pouring from my ears if this system ever hit my personal inventory bags .. without the ability to ignore such a system and use manual/visual sorting.
Ive tried, Ive given it time, Ive listened to the ppl who LOVE the new vault and let it GROW on me. I avoid going to the vault now, I avoid mining, I avoid crafting. So with that aspect gone Im playing less. Which doesnt matter because it seems Vilya is dieing with even less pop since FTP went live(which make no sense). There use to be lots of ppl on in certain places and on my friends list. Now it seems those same places are ghost towns and Im lucky if two or three ppl on my friends list are on. Maybe they left over FTP or maybe they left over the vault. We will never know, because not everyone voices their opinions in forums. When an issue leans heavily to the negative and it is still implemented, ppl tend to throw up their arms n say why bother bitching about it they wont listen anyway.
For me I know one thing, I still hate the new vault. I not going to go thru 10 bags (even if I can rename them) one at a time, wasting 20 minutes (since you cant open all ur bags at once) to figure out what I want to do and do I have the things I need for it. Ive already lost items since I was stupid enough to just drop it in the general vault and couldnt remember the exact name and had to waste time scrolling n searching scrolling and searching.
I'm still wonder why after generating so much negative posts in beta the new vault was implemented. Oh yeah that's right (slaps head) you were forced to implement it, n then promise to fix it later. Other games in the past have done the very same thing to include closing their forums because of all the negativity. I have to be honest I thought Turbine was different, finally a game developer who listens to its player base. Sure I do appreciate all the effort going into fixing this new vault. But it wasnt the players in beta who were crying out loud; Ohh Please Turbine please implement that wonderful broken vault so we can move this topic to the live forums.
Will I buy extra bank space? To be honest...no, I dont even need the vault now, its just a place for my extra pots, token n ixp items. If the vault system comes to personal bags, I give up, the game will end for me. I keep certain pots n tokens on my quick bar, but use bagged items for boss fights as do a lot of ppl. Housing, Ill just sell the house. As a Lifetime founder I have useless turbine points. Will I ever buy turbine point? Heck no, ask any of the players who are lifetime and I'll eat my words if a majority say they will.
Not at all. I'd be overjoyed if they implemented the new system for personal inventory. For one thing, I can't imagine using potions straight out of my bags: that's what quickbars are for (rapid access to items and skills). I understand that some people do use their bags that way; I can't imagine why anyone would want to do something so inefficient, but as long as I don't have to, fantastic.
I just hope that the new system gets tweaked to everyone's satisfaction ASAP. I at least hope it gets tweaked enough within the next year and a half; because that's how long =I= had to suffer with the disaster that was the old system ;^)

I run out of quickslots. I'm currently leveling a new hunter. Bar 5 is full of ports, and I don't have 'em all at level 48 yet, so there will be overflow. Then we have skirmish, crafting tools, food, blue and green pots, ed token, oils, crafting, stances, bow and blade skills, tracking, traps, bow chants, and so on and so on. Of the six quickbars I have four slots open and 17 levels to go. Since hunters need so many slots, I keep one bag open so that I can right-click on it, which is as fast as hotkeying for anything except a straight keystroke.
At least it's as fast if nobody has alphabetized my bag for me with the new vendor trash I just picked up... and don't knock the vendor trash: when I was grinding Trollshaw worms for Valour I ended up with 1.2 gold in trash. Thanks very much for the higher piles and lower trash variability, Turbine -- it makes a huge difference!
And, of course, when Festival comes I'll need to clear three slots for dance1, dance2 and dance3!

Darej, since you posted that information I'll ask you (or anyone who uses them!) .. do the lua plugins load and stay loaded now?
In beta I tried the "travel" one for hunters and wardens and thought it was very helpful, especially in freeing up quickbar slots! but I had to remember to load it every time I logged on. Since I switch characters frequently, this got to be a pain you-know-where so I gave it up. If they've conquered this problem I'd love to give the luas a try again.
no...you have to load them for each character...and i beleive this is because not all toon will use the same exact plugins.
however there is an easy one button solution to this.
on top of all the plugins you want to use...also get Shady's plugin manager >>>HERE<<<
then make yourself an alias using this guide http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?144140-How-to-Macro!-(A.K.A.-The-alias-Command)
once thats done all ya gotta do is clik one quikslot to load the manager and wahtever plugins that toon uses!!!

You can use plugins to add more and use custom ones for your class.

I know that I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'm starting to like the new vault layout. It does take some time to move items into the chests, but here is how I have my vaults set up.
Main Chest Food, Potions, etc
Chests 1-6 Crafting items for ranks 1-6.
Chest 7 ALL crit items, scrolls, shards, etc.
Chest 8 usually empty (think another crafting level someday.)
Chest 9 rep items
Chest 10 - Armor, medallions for armor, pocket items, etc.
I have all of my characters (14 so far) set up this way, then I know exactly where things are in the vault.
What is nice is that if I drag something to the vault it will automatically put it in the right chest, as long as I have another of these items in there already.
I also like that I can have 1 item is 1 chest and 50 items in another. I'm not limited to 1 chest of 30, and 6 chests of 10. I also understand why they did this. With the ability to have up to 150 slots in your vault, you screen would have been covered with little bags.
Over all I like the customization options with the vault. Do I think there is room for improvement, yes. Here are the 2 things I want to see. A search feature, and the ability to fill stacks in my inventory, or only take so many items from my inventory.
