Second time my friend was banned from the game, which I found funny at first but well now I dont have anyone to play with. Point I just want to make is that the chat filter in games kind of... pointless. He got banned for swearing, which was filtered by the profanity filter, not to mention it wasnt even said in an insulting/angry way, just as part of a light hearted attitude. The chat filter, I'd imagine was there to stop people being able to see profanity implying it cant be a bannable offense, otherwise whats the point of creating a profanity filter. If its a bannable offense why not just stop the player from being able to broadcast it in the first place instead of filtering it, and banning him anyway?
It was a great way he went too, the guy who I'm guessing reported him said "Haha, goodbye noob", such a welcoming attitude. Good to know that the GMs side with the established players within the community, and are willing to ban new players without so much as a warning. I know from now on I wont try to make any friends within the game, in case I let out a cuss word somehow and get myself banned.
At the time some of the other people within the GLFF channel said "If you report people for swearing, then you shouldn't be in GLFF". At least someone out there isnt a jerk.
TL;DR profanity filters useless. Swearing still gets you banned. Why was it even implemented?
Actually, cussing in chat is against the EULA that everyone agreed to when we installed the game. That said, the profanity filter wasn't designed to stop anyone from cussing. It was designed to prevent those that don't want to read (or want their 9 year old to read it) profanity that was typed by someone that decided they actively want to break the rules set forth by Turbine. One of the rules just happens to be "Thou shalt not cuss"
AS noted above, the terms of service state that the use of profanity is prohibited. THat means if you type it, regardless of whether or not filters are present or turned on by other players, you are in violation and may have action taken against your account.
