My guard, Helvek, in something that reminds me a bit of the Varangian Guard.

Gah! You got me all excited when I got that quote as an email update. My academic background is medieval Scandinavia (all the Nordic countries, technically) and I do Viking period historical reconstruction, living history reenactment, and live-steel combat. So I saw this and thought, "Did I miss something? Splinted greaves on boots and and splinted bracers on gauntlets? Lamellar armour and pauldrons? A good-looking spangenhelm?" You got my hopes up. Ah well, Rohan will Soon™ be upon us.

All kidding aside, it does look nice.

A helmet that actually looks quite nice and even a bit feminine. Feel a bit 'Joan of Arc' in it.


This I had to collect; someone sold tne top in the GLFF trade channel and I was so horrified I had to not only buy it, but try and find matching trousers. And eventually I did! Isn't it delightful?

The leggings are the leggings of the Blademaster, champ only, though there might be a purple armour version for captains and guardians.

Those are actually the [armour]Leggings of the Axe-handler[/armour], of which there is a version for Captains and Guardians. The [armour]Blademaster's Leggings[/armour] are very similar, but have more extensive gold trim.

The shoulders, boots, and gloves I think are Lothlorien crafted heavy armour pieces (Glorious Boots, Pauldrons, Gloves of the Galadhrim).

They are, but the pattern is also used in the Moria three-piece heavy armor sets, such as the Champ's [item]Armour of the Whirlwind[/item] and [item]Berserker's Armour[/item].

The cloak I cannot see enough of to know.

The cloak design is used on many different cloaks, including random vendor-trash. [armour]Ever-shadowed[/armour], [armour]Warden's Wrap[/armour], and [armour]Thaliongol[/armour] are some examples.

The clearest hallmarks from this angle are the relatively plain field with the white trim at the bottom - very few cloaks have a white trim like that, let alone by itself. You can also make out the wing-like emblem of the cloak peeking out between his right arm and right hip.

Late coming back with this, but I just happened to poke into the thread again.

I'd love a realistic spangenhelm, a realistic mail hauberk (tucked-in mail shirt doesn't quite cut it), and gauntlets that didn't look like dinner plates riveted to gloves. With the Norse bent Tolkien had and worked into the books, I think a Dane-inspired set of armour would fit in pretty well in the game.

It'd also be neat to see thrusting spears.

I like the new plainer, travelling style robes. A nice change from fancy ballgowns.

It's spring! Time for new outfits.



Traveller's Hood, Minstrel's Moria Shoulders in umber, a dropped-item Dwarf style vest, leggings which were a drop, but can also be gained from Evendim as Dunkley's Leggings, Westernesse boots.



Dropped vest (had good luck finding it around Annuminas), Elven light armour leggings, Rochwen's boots (unique design, I think, from that one Trollshaws quest).

Not sure if I'm 100% happy with the boots. Was trying to avoid Elven and stick to Man/Westernesse stuff only for a more militaristic look but darnit, the pre-Moria Elf boots just have the best shape!

Helmet is the Medium Purple Moria - burglars, wardens and hunters will be able to get it from the barterer. The shoulders are the Minstrel's Moria.
