I once worked for a company with a Very Large Web Presence, in which the continual service of that Very Large Web Presence was crucial - ESPECIALLY during times of high demand.
There came a time when we made changes designed to better adapt to such unexpected surges of web traffic. The changes were tested extensively and thoroughly, and everyone was satisfied that the changes were working properly, and that we were well-equipped to handle such traffic surges.
And then we had one of those massive surges of web traffic.
And everything went down. HARD.
You can try your best to prepare for the unexpected - but the fact is, it's UNEXPECTED, and you can never be certain that what worked perfectly in testing will function just as well when dealing with Reality.
...That having been said: if what someone else said is correct - that the launcher is trying to connect to patch.lotro.com which is currently out of service - is patching really happening at this time at all? Or am I just stuck in the queue, and that's why I'm getting the out of service message? I'm still a bit confused on this, even after having read the entire thread.
My suggestion would be to put a sticky at the top of the forum, titled, "CAN'T CONNECT? READ THIS FIRST", detailing the most up-to-date news on the situation and pointing people to this thread. That way, at the very least, the rest of us can have fun mocking the people who can't understand those five words.
